Kind of pissed at myself...didn't ride yesterday or today (was supposed to rain, wasn't feeling it) and now it looks like rain/snow for the next five days. Could be end of the high country.
Instead, I m playing with fiberglass insulation.
I am itchy.

I did a grade 2/3 separation and 2.5 years later it's finally mostly ok. Have done lots of PT for it and that really helps.

In general I'm of the opinion that if it doesn't stop you from riding than you should just keep running it. Spending $$ and time at the doctor is usually a waste unless you know you want to get cut open to fix it. They will charge you for an x-ray and tell you they want to do and MRI. Then they will do and MRI and tell you that your options are surgery or to keep it as is. Well yeah doc... I could have told you that.

Surgery for an AC joint is pretty straight forward and can be done years after the injury if you still feel significant weakness in your shoulder. They just bolt everything back together and send you on your way.
Thats pretty much what I figured. The doctor and radiologist suggested that I had a grade 3 separation, it was pretty clear things had gone explodey in the shoulder, in the xrays. One funny thing was that during the 2nd round of xrays (hospitals here are dumb and can't transfer them between themselves, from where I went to the ER), they had me hold a kettle bell to see how much it pulled apart. I guess it didn't really move, so the radiologist or whoever questioned if it was an old injury. Stupid bikes... I assured the doc that it did in fact happen only a few days prior.

But yeah after it happened I took it easy and listened to my body. I don't think I touched a bike for a month and a half and then only slowly started on the cross bike for at least another month. Somehow got the shoulder feeling good enough during the onslaught of winter to tackle Pisgah. I've since bailed on it a few times and have come out okay. Including chopping my knee up a few weeks ago.

Actually looking back, I think the wipeout in the first ten seconds of this video was the first big test for the shoulder. hah

Dang what a lucky kid. He was riding his bike across Murietta Blvd on Stanley Blvd when a lady in a VW bug tried to make a right onto Stanley on red without stopping. The kid ended up on the hood and his bike was under the car. Bike was trashed but he was unhurt. I was stopped on the other side of the light and saw the whole thing. called 911. I could not believe that the kid was fine. The VW had to back up to get the bike out from under it

Bitch drove off after checking on the kid. I had given 911 a good description of her and the car and the LEO pulled up maybe 20 seconds after she drove off. I pointed and he went after her code 3. don't know what went down after that
oh i sure as shit hope LEO nabbed that asswipe.

A hearse is about the fourth best vehicle to get hit by. First is an Ambulance, second is a fire truck, third is a coroner's van. Bus is number 5, but most suggested to jump in front of.

PT is really helpful. I used these exercises plus a few others and had good results. I still do them on occasion when the shoulder is feeling "loose". I probably have some damage to my rotator cuff/labrum as well but it isn't bad enough to stop me from riding, climbing, and skiing so I'm not gonna do anything about it at this point.
