Hey dudes, I saw this happen yesterday in whistler, at the bottom of schleyer. Guy hit that really small jump just before the road crossing the fireroad next to lower crank it up. It was super scary to watch, he landed and the frame just exploded. He wasn't doing anything crazy, definitely should not have happened.
Are you talking about the very same bike in the picture, or another exploded bike?

Because I have a hard to reconciling your description with a bike that not only broke the frame in half, but also twisted the fork legs and bent the steerer tube. How was there any leverage on the fork after the frame broke in half?

Kidwoo's bike rack + garage theory sounds pretty plausible, though.

Fork lowers badly twisted. Stem/bars twisted. Frame sheared clean in half in two places. That is violence. Don't know if you could even do that much damage to a Wal-Mart frame in so many places at once. We need myth busters.

you think someone will do this to his bike on purpose ?
actually it look like a really bad crash with a poor welded frame.
Looks like the crash also made the fork to twist…
Hope the guy who rode it is ok

If your frame snaps and you crash as a result of it then of course all the other components stay in out-of-the-box-new shape.

If it was a poorly welded frame wouldn't all the welds fail? The downtube snapped in half which to me means those welds held fine.

I think we'll start to see this from more manufacturers as they continue the quest for the lightest DH frame.

You may want to lower your nose out of the air on this one as you are repping a company that deliberately sent out a batch of untreated frames to the public.
Thats some $hit you don't get off your shoe.

That DHR broke and that sucks and it needs to be addressed, but I am betting it was not sent out from Turner with bad intentions if you know what I mean.

That bike certainly did break in the Whistler bike park on Saturday June 18.

I saw the rider early in the day in the park and a close friend saw him with the broken frame later in the day.

no, you've got it all wrong shirk, the RM detectives know what happened based on looking at a picture.

Just to fuel the flames...

I'll also add that the rider did not look like he matched the bike.

He looked like many people you see in the park that are usually on a old Kona or Norco not a brand spanking new high zoot internet hype machine bike.

Someone mentioned on NSMB that the frame was a replacement for a previously broken old style DHR.

You mean he wasn't wearing $300 troy lee pajamas? :D I don't know, I thought he looked like a regular guy riding the park. He mentioned to me this was his 6th day in the park and he'd had the bike a little over a month, for what it's worth.

Yes - very same bike. Watched it explode right in front of me. Bike and rider slammed to the ground which is when the fork got all twisted up, I'm pretty sure. As soon as he got up he noticed his fork was facked, so I doubt he'd been riding with it like that all day... if you could even ride with a fork with twisted lowers like that.

Did he get hurt? I can only picture if that happened to me I'd find a way to get myself apple-cored with a broken tube or something.

Nope, luckily didn't get hurt. One of the sharp broken ends of his frame sliced his shorts almost clean off. Good day to wear underwear

From what I have heard the first batch of DHR's did have some issues but that has all been taken care of now and new frames seem to be doing great.
Plus there is an awesome warranty.
I'm still waiting for my stupid warranty frame...
But I think it's because my distributor is a hack.

What do you really expect is gonna happen when somebody posts up photos on the internet of a brand new frame with this kind of prestige/mystique around it snapped in half? It's human nature to be curious and speculate wildly about what might/might not have happened when you don't really have much info about it (people still believe an invisible bloke in the sky created the entire universe simply for lack of a better explanation!).

Speculate away! haha.

No, you're supposed to know the right answer right away as to the cause when there's zero explanation accompanying the picture.

Looking back on it now I can clearly see that the popcorn eating smiley that went with the original post clearly implies 'cased on the shltty jump at the end of slayer'. I admit, I didn't see it at first but now that I know the story, it's clear as day.

actually the popcorn smiley was added because I knew exactly how this thread would go. I know absolutely nothing about the bike or crash or whatever caused the damage other than what was posted in this thread. The typical reaction to a broken bike photo is for one side to assume there's a manufacturing flaw and the other side to say the rider is a hack and likely hit a wall. I generally choose to stay with the idea that everything breaks. As ****ty as some people think that particular jump is, there's no way a bike should break in half by casing it unless the bike was being pushed by a truck.

I agree.

And I'd also bet money that this jump in particular wasn't the entire reason that frame broke. Partially because I did the same damn thing last year first run on schleyer on my frame :D

That wasn't pointing to your original post as goofy, rather the post that socket quoted from FF.

I did the same thing last year on my frame and its still fine. Comprehensive and irrefutable proof that the TR450 is stronger than the Turner? I think so.

Logic be damned.

or is it ?
Unless that was on the same jump then that pic doesn't disprove my theory. As it stands, according to the empirical evidence we've established - whatever caused that TR450 to break would have caused a DHR to explode in flames.

You can't argue with the scientific process.

Who cares about all that. I just want to make fun of the dork who's gratuitous enough to take the photo but too much of a pussy to have his face show up in the picture.
or maybe i dotted it out cos of him maybe not appreciating getting shown on RM with all the super riders here ;)

its not me but a friend.

theres your borked tr450- all frames break eventually as it turns out :P

Serious failure there.
