Anyone planning on racing in July? I'm really thinking about making the trip up there. Just trying to get a feel for who may be there.
Is Mt. Snow fun?

Mt. Snow is the complete antithesis of fun.Is Mt. Snow fun?
You should check out one of the Vermont state series races instead, I think you'll find it a lot more fun than the Nat's. 1st one is May 31/June 1, and it's part of the Gravity East Series - Jim.Anyone planning on racing in July? Vermont is way too far for me to make a bunch of trips - I just thought a chance at winning Nationals would be cool. You should check out one of the Vermont state series races instead, I think you'll find it a lot more fun than the Nat's. 1st one is May 31/June 1, and it's part of the Gravity East Series - Jim.
I agree completely, Every other place in New England is better, seriously... Mt. Blow even charges racers to Park..Mt. Snow is the complete antithesis of fun.
They couldn't find a way to charge money for fun so they pretty much phased it out after about 2001
WINNaR!I agree completely, Every other place in New England is better, seriously... Mt. Blow even charges racers to Park..
If you knew how much they charged factory teams for pit space, your frigging head would explode. I can't recall exact numbers, but I remember thinking it wasn't too far off from the insane prices we paid for Interbike booth space.WINNaR!
Why would you charge racers and media 30$ to park for the weekend? Its already 70 or so to register, and 60 for your license. HOORAY.
Is that why you raced Massanutten in Sport instead of Expert? Just so you'd qualify for Nat'ls? Sand bagging mother fvcker!Vermont is way too far for me to make a bunch of trips - I just thought a chance at winning Nationals would be cool.
HAHA yes - I really wanted to try Nats, but look at the results 2 threw 5 were really close. Is that why you raced Massanutten in Sport instead of Expert? Just so you'd qualify for Nat'ls? Sand bagging mother fvcker!

Both pro/expert and beginner/sport courses look fun this year. We raced the majority of the pro/exp course at Mt. Snow #1, and they were going to use the entire sport/beginner course for #2 until it got rained and thunderstormed out.
If I didn't have my kids 1 year b'day on my race day, I'd be there with y'all! - Jim
this is not a NMBS race but the one day National Championships, which give decent UCI points to the pro's. All/most UCI sanctioned countries hold their National Championships on the same day. Yes the series is dead thanks to the promoter who squeezed every last penny out of the name while offering less and less every year. This is the LAST year of the NMBS.Nationals are dead. Race locally unless you are fast enough for world cups.. It's kind of sad that there is a few (literally) people still following the series. With the price of gas being what it is I can't see how anyone can justify paying so much to go to a race that is generally run poorly and gets your sponsors little to no exposure if they are footing the bill.
The contract with Mt Snow and the National Championships is up this year and there will be no more NMBS so it will be the local series only for a while. I've heard rumors that Mt, Snow may move their biking operation to the Carinthia area, where they are building a huge snow park and the are no forest service worries. If the forest service won't let you cut/build new trails, maybe it's time to look for a new mountain for the National Championships.
I hopped on the begginner/sport course on accident two years ago and I must say it was much funner than the expert/pro course. Just more fun drops, logs and berms as opposed to high speed stuff and chutes. Both pro/expert and beginner/sport courses look fun this year. We raced the majority of the pro/exp course at Mt. This years course is different except the first downhill/slopeI hopped on the begginner/sport course on accident two years ago and I must say it was much funner than the expert/pro course. Just more fun drops, logs and berms as opposed to high speed stuff and chutes.
that would explain why some of the "who's who" skipped it last year to hang out in Canada instead lthumbsdown:Whether you like it or not the Nationals have more status than any other race in the US. If you get a podium here it goes on your resume and sponsors are more impressed with a National top-five finish than any other race.
If you are looking for an event that is the de facto roll-call of who's who in gravity this is it. Thank you for having this on the East coast again.

US National Championships are a joke. No, you shouldn't be there when all they do is take your money and give you nothing in return. Give me a break.Duh!..Its the National Champs. Even if its run by 2 men with a stop watch and piece of tape, you should be there. It's not going to be fixed by boycotting it.
Is it Mt snow that charges 30 dollars for parking or is it NORBA? It really ticked me off last year.WINNaR!

It's mt snow. They claim it is for "trail improvements".Is it Mt snow that charges 30 dollars for parking or is it NORBA? It really ticked me off last year.
You are absolutely correct. I was around in the heyday. I saw pros get paid, saw a fleet of 18 wheelers and massive volvo tech support trucks roll in. I saw great courses (Durango anyone? Crystal Mountain?), UCI points bestowed, organizers who cared and venues that were not complete dumps, or completely unsuitable for a sport like MTBing. Seriously, I am going to a MTB race. I do not want to be stuck in the middle of an asphalt race track, or a graffitti infested suburban hole in the wall. There will also be free parking.
Transcend - it's easy to see why you think it's lame. It's because you don't like what it's become. USAC-willing, Uncle Sam wants you in Colorado next July. We gotta un-brainwash you.
