not confirmed, but sounds like gwin first qualifier with 2:11, duncan 2nd with 2:13 and palmer in 8th with 2:18...that's all i've heard so far and don't know for sure.
The doubles you are talking about are not the ones I was referring to from 2001. The older ones where HUGE in comparison, no women and many Pro men didn't hit them. The set the girl died on later that the youngster built where just straight too small to be in that high speed section.Lisa and Jackie are awesome huge props to those girls. Correct me if i'm wrong but i dont think either of them get paid to ride, or have male teamates to help them. Hats off to how those girls step up.
Just reading some of the posts about the jumps,,,and to the posters who mentioned big bear in 2003. The big bear jumps in 2003 were built by a 17 year old snowboarder who the had zero clue how to build jumps for mtb. I was at the scene when That horrible accident happened and i sold my bike a week later and have not raced a big event since. Dont compare this event to big bear 03, it's not the same in any way.
Steve wentz and the sol vista crew know how to build and they all race, huge props to the whole crew.
He went a c-hair slower in final than in quali run, so ya. Very impressive for off the couch though.happy for gwin. a decent first result for palm. Looks like fitness may be his main issue.
hell yeah...its awesome to see the youngin up thereNice one Will!!
Saw him on the chairlift and he said he had a concussion and couldn't remember the course... so perhaps he wasn't really pinning?Any word on how Haderer did?
nice! thats what i guessed for Litter OTB...sweet =)a close one! dh pro men finals - 1. gwin, 2. duncan, 3. jd, 4. cody w., joey schusler and geritt beytagh tied for 5th.
werent you guys heading out there in like a 100' camper?Neko did not attend the US Champs. His team felt he'd be better served racing the Pro Class at the Gravity East then the 15-16 year old class at Nationals, which is what he would've had to do. Logan got edged out by Richie Rude and finished a solid 2nd. Neko got 2nd to Ben Moody at Attitash.
Wow, whats with all of the DNS's?
It was actually 1800 race starts is what Darner told me on Saturday. Insanely fun weekend.I think I heard there were around 1400 starts this weekend? I may have taken a few crazy pills so sorry if I'm wrong.
All in all it was totally rad!
I think the total ambulance rides were around 12. It is pretty bad when they have the life flight staged at the venue though. I did not bother counting the number of slings walking around by Sunday.Pretty standard and despite rumors earlier in the week the ambulance was not carting people away left and right
Not full, but top 5.Full results for the canadian nat's?
Hans Lambert- pro menFull results for the canadian nat's?
I heard the race announcer say something about the heli not being for life flight, but I could be wrong. Awesome race all in all, the course was alot of fun despite what the eriders were on about.I think the total ambulance rides were around 12. It is pretty bad when they have the life flight staged at the venue though. I did not bother counting the number of slings walking around by Sunday.
I'm stocked to see that you guys are going "big" but are they worth the massive hype everyone is putting on them? Or don't the video's capture the pure size of the jumps? But to me 50 foot isnt too crazy especially since they pretty much in a rhythm section on the Pro mens course, those guys hit stuff that big all day. I've seen our(South African) youth men national champion style 50 footers, I'm not trying to take anything away from your Pros, I'm just argueing that those jumps should be there.Yeah, I agree with you Steve - The jumps did look big but, certainly do-able for the top DH racers in the country.
The fact that they aren't earning big checks for it - is a reflection of what bad promoting and sorry tracks have done to the sport.
Doesn't mean the tracks for the biggest race of the year here in the U.S. should be watered down to continue to hold the sport back.
I would bet the top 10 guys are used to hitting big stuff like that on the regular.
I remember hitting the big 45-50 foot booter at SeaOtter when MTX first popped up on my hardtail. Scary but, I felt like a Pro when I hit that thing for sure!
I like when you can see a little fear in the top boys eyes... then you know they're human... haha
Not that every track needs 50 footers to make them official courses but, I think it stepped the National Championship up to the level it should be.
Colorado has the best series in the country right now so it doesn't surprise me that those boys put on a great race!
I might even have to renew my USA cycling membership if it comes back to Colorado?
