SS has a point.Battery for my gf's Dell craptop is something like $120.
stfu noob
Too bad Sony and Apple us the same battery for their laptops. $43 is a good deal.Proprietary battery - bend over.
$43 is a good deal for an iPod battery? Or are you talking about something else?Too bad Sony and Apple us the same battery for their laptops. $43 is a good deal.
You think that Dell's laptop battery is more proprietary than than the iPod's? Dell's battery is a standard laptop battery used by many other manufacturers; the iPod's is way more proprietary. I won't argue that the markup is still pretty big for all *good* batteries though.$43 is a good deal for an iPod battery? Or are you talking about something else?
Hey ! I don't need a new cel phone and wanted the large screen and battery life having Static memory instead of a hard drive gives you. The Touch has 22 hours audio and 5 hours video more than twice what my 30gb "classic" has. The only problem is that I'm using 27gb on my "classic" and i'm going to have to cut some south park out. Those are for people who want to pretend they have an iPhone, so they get what they deserve.
Then I bet you can get them in the aftermarket quite reasonably. You think that Dell's laptop battery is more proprietary than than the iPod's? Dell's battery is a standard laptop battery used by many other manufacturers
Then they've got you over a barrel.the iPod's is way more proprietary.
<shrug> I've got a Nano and an Sansa e280. I can't think of a single category in which the Nano is superior. And the replacement battery for the Sansa is $20 and is a user-servicable feature. Take 4 screws out and replace the battery. And I'm loving every minute of it.
From their site, but a lot of the West Coast Apple Stores have them in stock right now, which annoys the hell out of me.
HA! No.Then I bet you can get them in the aftermarket quite reasonably.
What model? Someone is telling me that Dell shares the same laptop battery with several other mfgrs and you can't get any in the aftermarket?HA! No.
The battery and manufacturing technology/process is the same, but the casings (latching mechanisms, materials, etc.) are different and are built by each manufacturer. For the iPod, the battery must be specifically built to fit into the small enclosure. What model? What kind of scam are these computer mfgrs pulling?
I'm sure.... I suspect that Apple built it *specifically* so that they would have a revenue stream from battery replacement. In the case of the Nano it's ridiculous, IMO.The battery and manufacturing technology/process is the same, but the casings (latching mechanisms, materials, etc.) are different and are built by each manufacturer. For the iPod, the battery must be specifically built to fit into the small enclosure.
uh, it's HUGE, as in twice as thick? that's the whole point of apple having these slim batteries. other reasons: ability to use the iTunes Music Store and iTunes in general, quality of the user interface on the device itself, availability of support and accessories.<shrug> I've got a Nano and an Sansa e280. Uhh... yeah. Huge. One's 1/8th of and inch thick and the other is 1/4 of an inch thick.uh, it's HUGE, as in twice as thick? that's the whole point of apple having these slim batteries.
Oh... you're serious?other reasons: ability to use the iTunes Music Store and iTunes in general
Umm... having used both the interface isn't that special on the Nano. And what accessories are available for the iPod you can't get for the Sansa? I personally have no idea.quality of the user interface on the device itself, availability of support and accessories.

I liked it better when Apple announced a new product and when Steve was done talking, you could walk into any Apple Store and pick one up...
I hope so. From what I've found out east here that sounds like the truth. But the Santa Monica Apple Store said they were in stock, but maybe he was mistaken or thought I was asking about a different model.I believe you are incorrect. None of the stores have the touch yet, they are not being shipped to people, or stores yet.
He hates those cans!!!How come "new iPod threads always remind me of

At this point I'll just wait I suppose...no other choice eh?
Hey I did put genius in quotes maybe I should have put dumba$$ cause I don't trust anything they say after somebody that I used to work with got hired as one.
Sweet! Have to wait until I get mine home and synced up to try it out. I'll be flying to Vegas next week for a week, their airport has free wifi, not worth busting out the laptop, but this'll be perfect!Posting from mine right now and having fun typing, I think it's going f
to be awhile for mr to get used to it
Dude, so I connect my Touch to my Mac, and the little screen comes on that has the iTunes logo with an arrow pointing from the USB cable. Problem is, it's connected to iTunes, it's just not realizing it. My stupid iPhoto opens up and says it's connected to an iPod with no pics on it, but iTunes doesn't see the iPod.yeah it's great for surfin' the internets when you're woking like me right now. I'm only mixing a jazz concert right now
I'd shut down Itunes and Iphoto, and then restart Itunes, and check the cables. If that doesn't work, You might also set Iphoto to not start it senses a camera connecting to the Mac, disconnect the I phone and reconnect.Dude, so I connect my Touch to my Mac, and the little screen comes on that has the iTunes logo with an arrow pointing from the USB cable. I just DL'd the new version of iTunes too. Any suggestions???
I'm bumming right now!
How do you set iPhoto to not start automatically? I played around but I didn't see that option.I'd shut down Itunes and Iphoto, and then restart Itunes, and check the cables. I pre ordered an ITouch as soon as the apple site came up after the announcement. Then I tired of waiting and went and got an Iphone, Thursday, which was the day the the Apple Stores were getting them in. Now I'm playing with the Iphone and realizing what a cool device it is. I've installed App.Tapp and have some command line utilities, a terminal, mobile finder, ringtones and some other stuff. I see where yu can load APache webserver, SSH, PERL and some really cools stuff and now I'm kicking myself for not getting the 16gb Itouch.I am a total loser, so I just ordered one that is 45-55 minutes away from my house. I'm waiting for my second email from Best Buy that it is ready, and I'm off!
Thanks man, I posted my problem.James, I've got no answer for you, but I can point you to the people that will.

Thanks for that tip on the Image Capture, fixed that. New iTunes, still won't sync.Choosing what application opens when a camera is connected to your computer:
To choose the application that opens:
Make sure no cameras are connected to your computer.
Open Image Capture (in your Applications folder).
Choose Image Capture > Preferences (from the topbar).
Click General at the top of the Preferences window and choose an application from the pop-up menu. (you'll select none)
Do you have the latest Itunes? If not it won't sync, no matter what.
