I have no idea where I am
Greta sure didn't think it was sexual assault.

Greta Zimmer Friedman:

Well, I was working in a dental office on Lexington Avenue for two brothers, JD and JL Burke, and all morning long people would come in and say there seems to be rumors that the war is ending. And since I wasn't very far from Times Square, I could just walk over there and see for myself. And so after my bosses came back at 1:00 from their lunch hour, excuse me, I went straight to Times Square where I saw on the lighted billboard that goes around the building, V-J Day, V-J Day, and that really -- that really confirmed what the people have said in the office. And so suddenly I was grabbed by a sailor, and it wasn't that much of a kiss, it was more of a jubilant act that he didn't have to go back, I found out later, he was so happy that he did not have to go back to the Pacific where they already had been through the war. And the reason he grabbed someone dressed like a nurse was that he just felt very grateful to nurses who took care of the wounded. And so I had to go back to the office, and I told my bosses what I had seen. And they said, Cancel all the appointments, we're closing the office. So they left, and I canceled all the appointments and went home.

I felt he was very strong, he was just holding me tight, and I'm not sure I -- about the kiss because, you know, it was just somebody really celebrating. But it wasn't a romantic event. It was just an event of thank God the war is over kind of thing because it was right in front of the sign.

Cultural norms were different in that time, it would be assault today. After the women's rights movement the majority of our society realized you cannot just grab a stranger off the street and kiss them against their will:

“I felt that he was very strong. He was just holding me tight. I'm not sure about the kiss... it was just somebody celebrating,” Friedman told Redmond. "It wasn't a romantic event. It was just an event of 'thank god the war is over.'”
...
“It wasn't my choice to be kissed,” Friedman told Redmond. “The guy just came over and grabbed!”

Abusers, whether they abused children, women, minorities, or foreigners, are still assholes regardless of whether it was accepted at the time. The photo just reflects a flawed culture on top of assault.

Jeezus Fucking Christ dude you are taking a tiny innocuous moment in history and trying to turn into something insidious.

What do you go by length or diameter ?
I just want to know how you measure that stick up your ass.

I sentence you to spend the remainder of the week condemning all historical atrocities since the beginning of time. No kale smoothies until you're done.

And you disliked my post and glossed over the fact she said it was against her will. Victims often don't want attention and an iconic photo like this would be especially problematic. You deserve the negative rep.

“It wasn't my choice to be kissed,” Friedman told Redmond. “The guy just came over and grabbed!”
You're endorsing being an asshole simply because it was the norm. That was Harvey Weinstein's excuse too. Just as invalid and obvious to anyone who has been harassed.

Harvey said:
I came of age in the ‘60s and ‘70s, when all the rules about behavior and workplaces were different. That was the culture then.

I actually searched and read a few articles on that pic. She didn't think anything of it.

If you think that I endorse sexual assault then you can go fuck yourself, you pedantic asshole!

Directly from the Smithsonian, she said that it was against her will. I guess it's fine if anyone does that to any of your family or friends, it doesn't count according to you:

“It wasn't my choice to be kissed,” Friedman told Redmond. “The guy just came over and grabbed!”

Oh @syadasti great arbiter of sexy harrasment. I come seeking guidance.

Is same sex sports related ass slapping sexual assault? Cause I'll slap some man ass in the course of a ball game or even out on the trail if I have to. Sometimes a highfive isn't enough to show your love for your bros

I'm not the asshole trying to make light of this problem and I didn't use ad hominem about football as an argument for this assault.

It's in basic job training. Sexual harassment is unwelcome, verbal or physical, and focuses on the impact to the victim - intent of the offender, positive or negative, doesn't matter.

It's probably listed in your job manual (if one exists) and it's a part of freshman orientation in most colleges these days. Still a major problem today just like discrimination because cultural norms take more than ideals and laws to change.
