Things have been quiet lately, Ben. Good to see that the curtain is starting to come up.

How's the shoulder? Any longer and you'll be able to be the "crash test dummy"!

Things are coming together. My shoulder is good, but you'll have to ride it for a while. I'll let you know soon.

Dorothy ain't dirty... she's just drawn that way....

PS: Ben, you are going to deny me the chance to beat Nathan J on his home trail if he doesn't have a bike to race on Sat... :D

I wanna beat him fair and square...

Nathan should have his bike already. A right nice build at that.

I think that Mary's would be just fine. Just don't play favorites too much, you know, spread the love around a bit!

N8, remind me to help you "adjust" your brakes before we head over to the starting line....maybe your derailers need some "adjustments" as well.....??

BW11: how about some pictures of that baaad girl?

Something tells me that the 29er marketers are not going after my age group.
Why is that?

Actually there are several 29ers out or coming out that will fit the budget of a younger rider ($500.00 Monocog, $750 Raleigh XXiX, and you could probably build up a Zion 29er from jenson on the cheap too).

I think he means that the Dorothy logo isn't Xtreme enough to keep his ADD from kicking in after 3 seconds...

Might I ask why? Is it the image that you do not agree with? May I ask your age? You can respond with an email if you'd like, but I am very interested in why you feel this way. A response would be greatly appreciated.

I am a 20 year old white dude. Maybe it is my age, where I live, or my personality, but I do not find Dorothy's chosen style of dress (especially the ribbons) attractive. The pig, on the other hand :brows:

edit: I should mention that, while attractive, I find the SRAM / Marzocchi / trade show booth girls pretty silly most of the time

Bjanga, I don't think we're meant to be sexually attracted to a cartoon drawing of a girl that is used as a graphic on a bicycle. There's a difference between something being "cool, hip, sexy, etc" and something being sexual that you would be "attracted to"...I think you may be approaching it wrong.

I think that it's a matter of preferance. The image was primarily designed to be a throwback to the hot rod girls of the 50's and 60's. It ties in with the fact that the builder is from Kansas, and is different from a lot of "corporate" logos. Nathan has a good point, it's not suppose to be super racy or pornographic, I guess it's not suppose to turn you on. It's just suppose to be a cool image that differenciates the bike from other 29ers.

You should know that I am far closer to your age then I am to most of the people that this is marketed towards. That doesn't really change the fact that the bike needs to be marketed towards the projected customer. It's a rare person of our age that is willing to invest in a XC frame that costs this much. That is not to say that they are not out there, only to say that there are fewer potential buyers than say of 35 to 50 year old males. I think that the logo does speak to people of our age though. The artist is only 26, and when featured at a recent exhibition of his works, this was by far one of the most popular. I think it's cool. I think that other people think it's cool. So we'll see how it's recieved when it's finally released as a completed project.

I would finish by saying that while this bike may not be directly marketed towards you, or the type of riding you do, (I looked,) there may be other projects coming in the future. Hopefully something like that might catch your eye. Cheers,

Ben

Hell it is the builder behind these bikes that will make em sell, not the graphic that will be associated with them anyway.

Rob Pennell makes kick ass bike frames and that's how you'll sell these in my opinion.

With that said - I like the artwork, especially as it relates to the Kansas connection of this builder.

Well, as a longtime female form enthusiast, I'll add my thoughts:

It reminds me of the 'nose art' on the B-52 bombers I see here every day... I'd say it's tastfully suggestive in a retro classic sorta way... not as sensual as a Vargas though.

That's exactly how it was intended.

I would hope that the shop behind the bike might be a selling point as well ;)

So, my question is this... will a person wanting a Badger, in a standard size, be able to get one without the looooooooong-loooooooooooooooooong wait often associated with getting a custom frame built?

Will it be almost instant gratification for the consumer?

That's the plan. There will be a preoder deal offered at first, but after that it'll be in stock as much as possible. The goal is instant gratifacation for all orders, or as son as humanly possible.

Well that would be very nifty! The ability to get a uber cool custom bike instantly could help justify the little extra cost if the frames to those who say the $1200 cost is a little on the spendy side..

Will the frames come with a set number of colors to pick from?

Frames will be one color for the time being. That may change if numbers make it a possibility. The color will make up for that, trust me!

As to Nathan's bike, it'll be there. I called UPS today just to confirm.

I do not think I said quite what I wanted to earlier . . . I think Dorothy is not "cool, hip, sexy, etc" although she is unique and oozing with soul. She seems like a relaxed throwback to 'the old days'.

Something like the Banshee, for example:

seems more representative of the agressive riding I do. I am not saying that Dorothy is not "Xtreme" enough, just that (to me) she projects a different mindset about riding.

Not that I am really all that extreme, I do a bit of mellow trailriding that a 29" is probably perfect for. My point is that I ride to push limits (even 'mellow' trailrides) and not to get out or relax. I guess Dorothy does not get me pumped.

edit: more stuff . . .
It's just suppose to be a cool image that differenciates the bike from other 29ers.
Why pick something 'retro', then? Seems to me like a lot of 29" marketing runs in that vein. Grizzled old trailriders and all that.

N8 says it best, and I have trouble relating something like that to my bike or mindset.

I agree . . . all this BS about art is just hot air in the end :)

As far as pricing and the viability of the 29" in the DH/agressive environment, people know what they want, how to find it, and are willing to pay for it. I for one am a bit worried about how long chainstays handle, but the monster truck-ness of the 29" is something I need to experience.

bjanga: Perhaps your perspective is not served by this art. I can tell you that for alot of us, (age hasn't got a thing to do with this) this kind of art tells a story that apparently you are not conversant in. That's okay..............

Your banshee can be seen in quite the same way, and in fact, is a far more ancient icon than Dorothy! Is their anyone still alive from that era? Of course not, but it speaks to you, and that's okay.

To expect that any sort of art is going to appeal to everyone across all age brackets is, well.......asking for a miracle. I'm quite sure that whatever art is on your bike, it's more about the rider and how the bike was designed to be ridden than it is the art on the bike.

Dorothy is just icing on that cake, if you know what I mean.
