I have no idea where I am
Took my first flight since the 80s last summer. A few minutes after takeoff the pilot comes over the intercom and says we have to do an emergency landing as a part fell off the plane mid flight. Apparently this is not normal based on passengers reactions and subsequent applause upon landing.

I’m guessing this will be the new normal.

Well, depends on if it's a required part or not.

I like your optimism that you'll even get off the ground without any functioning personnel in the tower.

My general feeling when I left my particular airline was that we had definitely entered the Enshitification stage, and was a huge part of my decision to leave. It felt like we were participating in some sort of Boeing Speed Run. Stock price first and foremost, all other concerns be damned. Without having any special insight to the rest of the industry, it is my perception that what was happening at my airline was not particularly unique. Safety matters, only in so much as it effects stock price. I'm pretty sure that if a crash or three a month didn't effect stock price, most airline CEOs would be perfectly happy to accept those losses.

Could be repeated for just about any publicly traded company.

We are all doomed.

There is a reason I don't fly anywhere if I can help it. I can name all the trips since I stopped being a national sales manager in 2000. 2001 SJC to Cabo and Back. 2010 SJC to DFW To Cancun and Back, 2017 SFO to Dulles for my FIL's funeral at Arlington National Cemetery and back. 2021 Oakland to Palm Springs one way. I'd rather drive

Aren't you at much more risk by driving, statistically speaking?

Granted one can be much more frustrating than the other, especially when dragging a few horses around the country.

Holy shit, what a great shot. All series of CRJ are notorious for being an airplane you have to drive into the ground to land, but there is ZERO flare before touch down. Maybe because of snow/ice someone misjudged height? Trust your instruments! Speculation on my part.
