i filled up on $2.65/gal last night. averaged 35 mpg on the last tankful.
Where are you finding those prices? Here in Worcester its about 2.85 per gallon, and back home its about 2.80. I must know where you are getting 2.65 dollar per gallon gas.

it's some small station on rt 114 near my house. i think driving from worcester to get gas would negate that price difference. :D

this was on Monday; prices probably went up yesterday so i will see what it is on the drive into work.

Perhaps some gov regulation is in order a'la FERC?
That's what I say. Gas needs to be (needed to be for a long time now) regulated by the goverment. Somethings suck that are regulated by the goverment but Fuel is one that desperately needs it.

When gas goes up 5 or 10 cents everyone cry's but really that's no big deal. Now when it goes up a 5 cents it seems every 2 days there's a problem. I know gas companies hike it up come summer time/big weekend getaways which is fine if they just hiked it up for the time being and not 50 cents a gallon. That drives me nuts!

Along with the fact that last time I checked the general working population gets a pay increase or cost of living that doesn't acount for the giant hike in gas. But do you think the CEO of Exxon and other oil giants are getting a pay increase. You betcha. Probably in the 6 figure + range. So go figure. They hike prices knowing we have to buy gas and they get richer.

I live across the street from what is known as a cheapy gas station. It's $2.95 last I checked but the Shell that I normally fill up at was $3.02 last night. Hell even the Vons gas station saves you 3 cents a gallon if you use your Vons club card but it's still $2.95 or so. This has just gotten out of control with the prices. For a while it dropped here to $2.60'ish but in the last couple months it's gone up 40 cents. That is crazy.

The problem is people won't stop driving. Hell that's how some make a living. It would take a national boycott to get the point across and even then I don't think it'd work. Everyone needs gas to function on a daily level. When it costs $40+ to fill up a Honda Civic things have come to be a problem.

yup. costs me $40 to fill up my accord right now. who had that dick cheney quote in their sig that says, "high gas prices are a sign of a failed presidency?" because thats all i can think of right now whenever i hear about the high prices.

here's a great example of the gov't intervention and gas prices...as a result of the bill congress passed mandating 10% ethanol content, prices have increased because the distribution system doesn't exist (trucks must be used, then compounding takes place at the refineries, i believe).

and this actually gives you less power per gallon, while costing you more.

hooray for gov't interjection!

$3.19/gal for 87 octane at the Chevron in Goleta....yikes.
Are we gonna see $4/gal this summer? I'm thinking so.
Ouch...that hurts! The cheapest is about $2.87 (as of Monday when I filled up) in my neck of the woods. I'm pretty sure that we will see gas at 4/gal at some point this year.

Almost right.

The ethanol has to be shipped by railcars or trucks not pipeline because it absorbs water easily. So it has to be added just before delivery not at refining. So Ethanol has to be delivered to each and every distribution point which is just more cost added to the increased cost of ethanol itself. And it will reduce your MPG by 1% or so.

The corn lobby is a powerful animal.

why don't people get pissed when their health insurance costs are skyrocketing, which is far more of an economic impact than paying a dime or quarter more per gallon of gas?

We hit $4.00 a gallon in Southern California. A gas station in Beverly Hills has gas for $4.04 a gallon. From what I understand that is for 91 octane. It's only a matter of time until we see $4/gal for 87 octane...

This summer's vacation is gonna be spendy!

Traders also worry that gasoline supplies may not meet summer demand after seven straight weeks of drops in domestic gasoline stocks, which are now at their lowest level since November.

U.S. refineries are operating below normal levels, as they continue to recover from last fall's hurricanes that battered the Gulf Coast, and as they perform seasonal maintenance. Furthermore, the transition from the gasoline additive MTBE, found to be a groundwater pollutant, to ethanol is creating additional fears about an already tight gasoline market.

It was 2.90 for regular in Olympia yesterday. I only drive on Saturdays anymore, feel lucky that Sara and I can ride our bikes for most everything. First time we put gas in the car in about 3 weeks. It was 2.40 then :hot:

Yeah, it’s unbelievable. The oil companies and the speculators are taking us for all they can. And you know it’s a symbiotic relationship: gas companies say that they will / or do raise prices, and speculators drive the prices up, which in turn makes the oil companies re-raise the prices, and it just continues in that cycle.
