The snowshoe trail wasn't perfect everywhere, but most of it was really good!

It's raining now, we'll see if I decide to get some studs or not.

Excellent conditions today. Travelled to where they groom the trail and where there is lots of traffic. Sure beats some of the shit rides we've had lately.

100% regret forgetting sunglasses though. Paying the price now with a headache from squinting.

I got 3rd place due to my poor life decisions. Not the temp, which did in fact go down to -32 on the course, but due to signing up for and taking the 2nd lap. Way way soft and 50 or more people out there mostly walking their bikes. I was able to ride 99% and only had to hop off for a few 20 feet sections, but it was tough, rutted, holes, punching through, etc. This race is never "hard", but this year was especially tough. The good part is working that hard, it's hard to get cold.

First ride on ice, on studded tires. Definitely found where the grip ends. They help but won't save you..

Though these cake eaters dont have that many studs..

Not sure why but I had no energy for the weekend, bailed on Saturday's ride just past the half way mark.
Did have an Eastern Yellow Robin raz along a straight in here and some small brown snake zoomed across the track not long after.

Interested to see what the two sets of studded Dillinger 5's do for us. Although I'm away for 4 weeks in the next couple of months so will miss a huge chunk of fat bike season...

On off-camber stuff, it puts you in a much more controlled slide, rather than the bottom of the bike instantly shooting out from under you and hitting flesh and bone on ice. It's not like you are glued to the ice or anything. Stud length (beyond the tire) and count seem to be the most important aspects for fat bike tires, vs. all the fancy stud-tips they want to sell you.

Sunset trail in Hawes was definitely a tight sphincter affair.

Sunsets on Peralta road are Incredibles.

A lot of good rollers that you got to scope out ahead IME. Fun trail, but some of that stuff pitches you way over with the ? about what is on the other side.
Indeed. I'd probably be more comfortable after 4-5 runs down it. One spot that threw me was one line that was doted white like all the other rollers, but this one was a gap with a landing made out of uneven rocks. That one will remain unanswered. But I was able to ride all of the others after a run in and scope. Fun trail. Is Boulderdash the same?

Boulderdash wasn't there when I did Sunset.

Icy these last few weeks. No snowfall going on 3 weeks now. 7C expected for this weekend. Mad weather.

I choose tonight's spot poorly and discovered that no one has really traveled in any form on the bike trails in this forest. Pushed up a steep ditch thing that snowmobiles use as a hill climb and rode slid back down.

Wrapping up a SWFL solo camp, Gravel Fun Season soon & some shreddy MTB to come. There's fresh tech that is easily THE MOST CHALLENGING on the BEast Coast. Glad to have lent time and effort this time last-year w/ Nepaug Riders.
