It was a day of Australia's biggest things.

Then I met a giant douche, I'd been out clearing MTB trails after the storms. On the bike path back I giggled as I rode over a small fallen tree and thought "Fuck it, the roadies can get that one.".
Two minutes later a bike path roadie warrior rides up and tells me that he removed the fallen tree for me and asked why I didn't do it.
Seems telling him that I'd been clearing MTB trails wasn't good enough, he kept babbling shit as he rode off, it made my ride, hahaha!

Rode. Skinny track but great conditions. Didn't go as far as planned, due to some trail not being packed down. I guess the groomers are still busted...

3 cars got stuck on the mild incline in the parking spot. Two of them had broken 4wd/AWD.

To be fair it was loose snow on-top of ice.. my car had no trouble getting out.

the latest and greatest Jamis Renegade (in steel (because it is real))
Why would you buy an offroad(ish) bike with a 72deg HA, small tires and a 70mm BB drop?
What does it do well, why not just get a Dragon?

I assume it's like most of my previous bikes, do it all, shit at all, but pretty fun.

My main bike is out of commission, so I’m riding 1991 style. Very cool to see the difference on the same trails. Was a blast to ride.

Kinda wish I had one of my really old bikes to see what trails would be like on them now.

Then again, I don't.
It's my city bike... and doubles as a backup. Since I enjoy blasting full speed over rocks, this won't for more than a couple of rides.

Ok other than being asshole freezing cold, tonight's conditions were most excellent. Nordic trails were finally groomed solid, which for an excellent speed run.

We're trying to convince our one buddy to ditch the clip pedals and shoes. He struggles every time

I did tweak my thumb though, it seems. Pretty tender. Not from riding, but from pulling one of my gloves on.... :banghead:

Then again, I don't.
I recently helped someone out at the trails by letting them ride my bike to the top, switching for their early 2000's 'trail' bike.
Not gonna do that again. Painful.

I went over a rock like that today. Packed down up to it, but the back slope was a hot mess of feet of snow. Thank God for my dropped post or I'd still be stuck out there :busted:
Usually there's a 4 feet gap. I was kind enough to fill it for the fatties since speed varies depending on snow accumulation. :homer:

Took my son to the far side of the main mountain I ride, but via train to bypass 450m of climbing and 15km of distance… more mellow trails over on that side. Rode some fun singletrack then headed to the jump spot. He loved it and was sending it. So cool to see.

Out to the old stomping ground today, all looks pretty sad. People only want straight lines and big jumps, I lack the nuts for that stuff.
IMG_20250127_204807.jpg

Was up to a 6ft drop here depending on speed in to a slight hip which landed you at the entrance to a berm if you were on it.

Solid for a gum.

There's a velociraptor in that picture somewhere..
Didn't see any, only saw a couple of Grey Fantails and some new weeds.

There's some new thing that looks like a green fishing net that covers plants, it doesn't appear to have stems/runners that go to the ground. I'm not sure how you'd poison it without killing the plant underneath it.
Mickey Mouse plants were popping up out there which was new for that area, same with the Blechnum Fern or whatever it is,

That looks suspiciously like one of those $60 Aliexpress reservoir bicycle shocks.

Another discovery day - felt good. Was surprised to see 1000m of climbing! There is rosemary everywhere, so much so that I don’t think I’ll need to ever buy it again. Look at this shiny golden material in the rock @jdcamb.
The air was clear and crisp. Lots of cactus on this side of the mountain. Great ride.

I had to laugh when I saw the local grocery store selling organic rosemary sprigs for $7.00. The stuff is literally overgrowing most of the sidewalks in the neighborhood.
