Santa Cruz factory demo was a success. Got on my first modern bike (29/27 bronson) and “wow” is the first thing that came out of my mouth. The feel was dramatically different with the big wheel up front, but after a while it just melted away and became the norm. What a revelation though on the trail. The bike is really smooth, solid, and easy to jump and get along with. First dirt of the year and what a way to start! What excellent trails you have SC.

Saw this riding back from the pro crit race. Guy unassociated with the race weekend(town is overrun with thousands of MTBrs at the Whiskey off Road)

Done. Everyone I know cramped like hell, including me. Didn’t run out of water though. I was really worried about my 32 fork, it was a complete noodle during my prerides. Didn’t matter in the end, these people were really slow on the descents and I was way faster without trying. Used to ride DH bikes in this stuff 20 years ago. 34 goes on now for the rest of the trip tho.

From today, our pro that came with us from AK and raced this weekend. He was the only one from our group to follow all my lines down all the good stuff on Highline, Hogs, etc…it was kind of hilarious riding up on groups of guys with enduro bikes standing around trying to figure out where “the line” was, just straight-lining in front of them on XC rigs. I’d rather have had my enduro bike, but I’m still going to have fun.

Another of our group, his first time down the Highline chute!
