Ti Spring For a DHX 5.0

I wanna get a Ti spring for my DHX 5.0. I am currently running a 500 pound spring and the shock measures 9.5 by 3.0. My current spring is borderline to soft on my Shockwave 9.5 and I was wondering if a 500 pound Ti spring would feel softer/stiffer than a stock spring. Should I get a 550? I weigh about 160 pounds but I like my suspension fairly soft.

a ti spring isn't going to feel any softer than a steel spring rated at the same weight.

Get a 550 if the 500 is too soft. The steel and ti are rated the same. The Ti just feels a little better.

550? Damn, is your ratio really that high on that bike?
I was running 550# on my Demo 9, and at 260 it was more then enough.

Couple pounds if I recall, like 2.5#
closer to half a pound, maybe 3/4 for a big spring.

550# seems quite a lot of spring to me as well. TFtuned calcualtor puts you on a 350 - 400 pound spring (300 with an SPV shock). Of course this does not take into account the actual rate curve of your frame, but.....

I weight 155 and I have a 500 pound spring, feels pretty good but sometimes a little soft. I usually run like 115 psi on my dhx 5.0. You think 55o is going to be to drastic of a change?

A medium Shockwave 9.5. my dilema is I like my suspension soft for resort riding, but a little stiffer for urban freeride. I think the 500 will be my best bet.

take the $250 that a ti spring will cost you, and put it toward a cheap hardtail....a 9 1/2 inch travel bike will never ride urban well.

I've heard of people spacing theme with an O-ring? don't quite get how that works, anyone got a pic?

My buddys got a RCS on his DHX 4.0. Seems to work alright but the diameter of the spring is almost to big for the spacer that holds it in. He hasnt had any problems yet though.

You realize that you want some plush on a DH rig, and trying to run it stiff can actually do some damage to the bike, which can lead to damage to you.

Well by stiffer I mean putting in like 145-155psi, a few extra clicks of propedal and maybe a little more bottom out resistance. It is still very active.

What??
Arrrr... it is a full suspension bike. It is supposed to move...

Do a basic sag check. Sit on the bike and measure if you have 1/3 of sag. If it is more that 1/3, than go for a heavier spring. And deal with the adjustment later.

550 seems high for any bike running a 3" shock.
Unless you weigh about 300# in which case you will be blowing shocks like Jenna Jamison.

FYI, all coil Ti springs are made by RCS. If anybody tells you different, they're full of it.

Where are RCS springs made? The nuke proofs that chain reaction sell are made in the far east. Aren't the RCS springs made in the US?

I've been looking at purchasing Ti springs direct from the far east recently.

If anyone's got any suggestions for this don't hesitate to give me a shoot.

I highly doubt rcs are the only one making them especialy when you look at the price differences.

My guess is there is something wrong with the shock or you have it set up incorrectly. There is no need for a 550 on that bike.

Everyone is telling me my shock is set up wrong and blah blah blah. My bike came with a 500 pound spring, I weigh 155 pounds, and it works just fine. If I put on a 250 pound spring like that 'Spring Calculator" says, a five year old would bottom out my shock. Unless mountain cycle sent me a really messed up shock (which they didnt), i dont see why a 500 pound spring is so big. Im not dumb, I can set up my shock. I just dont see why they would send me a 500 pound spring with my frame if that was wrong. Well I guess im just stupid. All I know is if i were to use that Spring Calcultor I would end up with a useless spring. Thanks for trying to help
