That round cap looking thing in Canadamoists post is the shift lock override. Jam a screw driver in it.
that's what i did. problem solved. i'm almost due for my 60k service interval, which is a major one. That round cap looking thing in Canadamoists post is the shift lock override. Jam a screw driver in it.
i was buying new, i wasn't about to drop another 10 grand.Manuals around here really suck with all the stop and go traffic but you should still have gotten the VRX at least @jonKranked
or maybe i just don't wanna jimmydean it.You should now the kid(s) will just suck up the money it was you one chance for the next 25 years.
Like on the sidewalk?according to the manual if you have to use the override you need to get checked by a dealer.
I suspect that it says that because shit's broke.according to the manual if you have to use the override you need to get checked by a dealer.
Pffft just a money grab for the dealer. I say just keep a screwdriver in the hole. Just image how more useful the car will be. Need a screwdriver? Bam, right fucking there.I suspect that it says that because shit's broke.
Who takes a car to the dealer?Pffft just a money grab for the dealer.
I need a fucking garage. The GTI is due a new timing belt, pulling the motor halfway out in a gravel driveway is gonna suck.Who takes a car to the dealer?![]()
I feel your pain. I'd love to work on my car and it sucks that I understand and know how to do a lot of the stuff. But not having a garage is killer. And my driveway is on a slope, so even jacking it up is sketchy.I need a fucking garage. The GTI is due a new timing belt, pulling the motor halfway out in a gravel driveway is gonna suck.

If you know what tools to bring and have a tool store in walking distance, a sketchbag empty car wash is a great alternative, though.... Same with covered parking garages that aren't used on the weekends.
As in you hired someone to do the roof, right?<snip>
That being said, having worked as a roofer after my freshman year in college, I didn't think twice when my roof needed replacing.
Yup. Found a gang of Mennonites that banged it out in a half day.As in you hired someone to do the roof, right?
If only we all had a garage like this guyI have unhealthy and fundamental issues having other people do work for me. I've done exhaust, shocks, springs, driveshafts, suspension bushings, tie rods, ball joints, all while rolling around in the gravel. I want to swap out the 4 speed in the Volvo for a overdrive unit, not sure I want to try and balance a 150lb gearbox on my chest while trapped under my car. I may have to take it to a mechanic. Before that I will consider digging a service pit in the driveway.

You're not as dumb as you look.Yup. Found a gang of Mennonites that banged it out in a half day.
Nice. If I ever feel happy/secure with my current job I will be moving. Either to another house here in Charlottesville or to one of our remote offices. A garage/shop will be a requirement. I have come to the conclusion that I am doomed to a desk for my professional life. Bikes and wrenches are about the only thing that keep me sane. I would love to move back to Seattle but I am afraid I will never be able to afford a place with decently sized shop there. If only we all had a garage like this guy
I'd totally come over and help sling the gear box out.
(be sure to check out this guys old Eagle Talon)
I have to admit that I loved it when I was 19. Been there, done that, never ever want to do it again. You're not as dumb as you look.
God roofing sucks.
It's good money when you're 19. But GOD it sucks.I have to admit that I loved it when I was 19. Been there, done that, never ever want to do it again.
I started at $5/hr, ended up making $10/hr after 3 months. After going back to school found that the going rate for roofers in NY was $18/hr.It's good money when you're 19. But GOD it sucks.
Jeezus. $5/hr to roof. Maybe you *were* as dumb as you look.I started at $5/hr, ended up making $10/hr after 3 months. After going back to school found that the going rate for roofers in NY was $18/hr.![]()
Shame, nothing ! I've lived in Boone and Assville, and my extended family are all hill people. They can drive in crap weather and on steep roads just as good as any lunatic from Philly on the Schuylkill during a white out.@AMS...shame on you for thinking the "mountain" people here drive any better...
probably more northern transplants in the lowlands than in the hills
that said, after growing up driving in CT, ME, and upstate NY, I wanted to mock everyone here at first (and, to be sure there are plenty of idiots here who can't deal/freak out unnecessarily) but I'll take driving in real snow any day over driving in the mixed ice crap we get here since it hovers around freezing so often.
This is truth, unfortunately.I would love to move back to Seattle but I am afraid I will never be able to afford a place with decently sized shop there.
