Nowhere Man!
I don't even think it snowed here. Filling your own K-cups is the way to go. My neck is killing me. Can't believe how much it hurts. Pain level 8 gets you a appointment next month.

people here are already freaking out about possible 3-5 inch snow late tomorrow nite. if it's all snow, and not the typical semi-ice crap we tend to get (and that actually is sketchy)

Want to help...but only had a racing Honda back when I lived in central Va. Racing VW?...whole different animal.
Oh wait...by "garage" do you mean like your own? You could probably build one with the $ you save by not going to a dealer.

I need a fucking garage. The GTI is due a new timing belt, pulling the motor halfway out in a gravel driveway is gonna suck.
I feel your pain. I'd love to work on my car and it sucks that I understand and know how to do a lot of the stuff. But not having a garage is killer. And my driveway is on a slope, so even jacking it up is sketchy.

If you know what tools to bring and have a tool store in walking distance, a sketchbag empty car wash is a great alternative, though.... Same with covered parking garages that aren't used on the weekends.

I have unhealthy and fundamental issues having other people do work for me. I've done exhaust, shocks, springs, driveshafts, suspension bushings, tie rods, ball joints, all while rolling around in the gravel. I want to swap out the 4 speed in the Volvo for a overdrive unit, not sure I want to try and balance a 150lb gearbox on my chest while trapped under my car. I may have to take it to a mechanic. Before that I will consider digging a service pit in the driveway.

That being said, having worked as a roofer after my freshman year in college, I didn't think twice calling someone when my roof needed replacing.

If only we all had a garage like this guy :(

I'd totally come over and help sling the gear box out.

(be sure to check out this guys old Eagle Talon)

Nice. If I ever feel happy/secure with my current job I will be moving. Either to another house here in Charlottesville or to one of our remote offices. A garage/shop will be a requirement. I have come to the conclusion that I am doomed to a desk for my professional life. Bikes and wrenches are about the only thing that keep me sane. I would love to move back to Seattle but I am afraid I will never be able to afford a place with decently sized shop there.

I have no idea where I am
Although I wasn't born in NC, I've lived here for a few decades and it still boggles my mind at how poorly Southerners (excluding mountain folk) drive in snow. They either speed along as if they're invincible in their giant SUV or Ford F150, or creep along at a pace that's dangerously slow on the highway.

During the storm BV mentioned I came across what looked like a mass collision ahead of me. Drivers were bunching up and brake lights were coming on. Turns out it was someone going 20 mph. Keep in mind that at this point there was barely 1/4" of snow on the road.

Also didn't help that I'm driving an unfamiliar vehicle while my awesome Honda Element is getting repaired after my recent encounter with a distracted driver. Now we're supposed to get more snow soon. Fuck winter !

@AMS...shame on you for thinking the "mountain" people here drive any better...
probably more northern transplants in the lowlands than in the hills
that said, after growing up driving in CT, ME, and upstate NY, I wanted to mock everyone here at first (and, to be sure there are plenty of idiots here who can't deal/freak out unnecessarily) but I'll take driving in real snow any day over driving in the mixed ice crap we get here since it hovers around freezing so often.

Shame, nothing ! I've lived in Boone and Assville, and my extended family are all hill people. They can drive in crap weather and on steep roads just as good as any lunatic from Philly on the Schuylkill during a white out.

"the mixed ice crap we get here" I'm fine with it when behind the wheel of the trusty Toaster, but a minivan, not so much. If I had known what was in store weather wise this week I would have put off taking it to the Honda body shop. sniffle, sniffle
