That thing looks pretty rad (well, for a 29er), and I think I'm not the only person here who's totally stoked on it being "34mm fork stanchion approved" because nothing is more annoying than frames not being approved for the right size fork stanchions...Although it is a carbon 29er trail bike, I think people are going to want to see this- goo.gl/UEa9A
The Ibis Ripley has been in prototype stage for ~ 4 years(!) so it feels really nice to let people start seeing it. It uses an all-new dw-link suspension layout named dw-2XC in reference to it's 2 eccentric pivots.
We've been working on this bike for what seems like forever. Far before it was fashionable or even heard of to have a shock clevis, and one of the first bikes since the I-Drive and Decathlon to use any type of eccentric link. Obviously more is better so we have two of them!
Also, Morewood should have a couple of new and interesting things to show, one of them definitely in line with more of the people on Ridemonkey DH's preferences. I won't spoil the surprise completely though.
You are looking at it the wrong way. It is a DH bike that eliminates the need for shuttles or a chairlift. As with anything electric the weight of the battery and the battery life will determine how succesfull it is. It is a very small niche in an already small niche market but it is a really cool idea.

If you've raced clipped in, or watched racing long enough, you'll know that there are times when you're going through rough sections unable to clip back in (after a corner for instance) with your foot perilously without any real support. I’ve seen Gee attribute a lost race to not being able to clip back in. So there is plenty of logic behind it (it’s also the reason why they have these ‘platforms’ on DH pedals in the first place). - that's my take on it.
