Visiting family. Borrowed my nieces bike which was two sizes too small and couldn't have the saddle raised enough.

Who knew Shimano still sold 3x7 gearing? These were some weird shifter/ brake hybrid.

Short ride, but whatever, it's on dirt. And in t-shirt and shorts.

But holy shit, my derailleur is one unhappy camper.

@Nick the cassette seemed to shift fine, would be unable to tell the difference between it and a GX one. Will need to figure out what's going on with the derailleur or hanger though, ugh.

Good ride with a good friend today. Neither of us was ready for a cloudless 85F and no tree cover/leaves for shade.

Yes 50t. This is a straight replacement for my GX 12 speed cassette so already have a 12 speed derailleur.

It's a GX derailleur though and the pivots, as well as the entire clutch portion is rather sloppy. I have a feeling when the rear suspension sags, it pulls on the derailleur and because of the slop, either twists it or moves it out of alignment. Maybe? Might explain why it seems fine in the bike stand, but when I'm sitting on the bike shifting, it isn't happy?

That sounds like a classic case of too short housing.... Could that be a possibility?

Check the rear hub for slop.

Too much pie over the Winter? :hmm:

:D
Winter? More like too much pie over the last two years... :busted:

I always accidentally moar beer :(

Yeah could be...there seems to be plenty looking at it, but I do have it nice and tidy. BUT, the way it's routed on the frame, the rear triangle kinda folds toward the front, if that makes sense? Could be perhaps tugging on it in the wrong way?

Oh gotcha, the one I'm looking at is for 11-sp Shimano. My XT cassette has a 47t One Up cog, so I was looking for the extra climb range. Like 75% of my riding is spent climbing in my top 3 gears, or top 2 more often than I like to admit.

SRAM rear shifting is so finicky. It’s as sensitive as a old white boomer.

Little guy wanted to go to the mountain today. Took bikes. So nice just riding most places now. He is one hell of a climber. Big gear most of the way. Standing and mashing… sometimes accelerating up the hills. Amazing to watch.

Winter’s grasp thwarting my attempts to ride dirt before May. This morning it looked like so:
