what a cluster **** trying to get my bike... it took me 49 hours to get to maribor due to canceled flights missed international connections, etc...they lost my bike on the way out, and it did not show up until monday... and then they lost it again on my way home.

so needless to say i did not get to race, BUT... I had a back up plan before i went over that turned out to be pretty awesome.

i will post a thread today or tomorrow with some pics and stories once i can go through everything and think straight

Thanks, Hannah into 7th... he keeps putting it together better and better every year. Should be interesting next year. It would be great to see him winning more consistently, he's got the skills to do it for sure.
Word. I always think that he used to be better and has slipped off in his "old age"....have to remind myself that he started winning when he was like 16.

So with the whole "Country's flag being on their helmet" thing...I've never seen that flag he's holding. Isn't the Aussie flag the same colors as their skinsuits?
I've seen what I assumed was the british flag...then I see Peat waving some other flag that's red and white and looks like a swiss flag...what the dealio?

Towing the party line.
Peat's red and white flag is the Flag of England. The Union Jack is the flag of the United Kingdom.

That blue one behind Sam is the Aussie flag. Remember, Aus used to be a British prison colony and is a member of the commonwealth of states.

The flag of Australia was chosen in 1901 from entries in a worldwide design competition held following Federation. It was approved by Australian and British authorities over the next few years, although the exact specifications of the flag were changed several times both intentionally and as a result of confusion. The current specifications were published in 1934, and in 1954 the flag became legally recognised as the "Australian National Flag". The flag is a defaced Blue Ensign: a blue field with the Union Flag in the canton (upper hoist quarter), and a large white seven-pointed star known as the Commonwealth Star in the lower hoist quarter. The fly contains a representation of the Southern Cross constellation, made up of five white stars – one small five-pointed star and four, larger, seven-pointed stars.

Are you being serious?...........co much for basic education. The Aussie national flag has a Union Jack (Flag of great Britain) in the upper left hand corner as they are members of the common wealth (ala NZ too). The green and yellow theme is like their national colours, (like NZ's black "kiwi" thing) their sporting identity really, and is used I suppose to some some national pride and separation form the British crown as well as the fact that a flag with a blue back ground and a lot of stars etc... is not so easy to represent on any sporting kit.

As for Peaty holding a red and white flag, that is the flag of St.George, that is the national flag of England. Scotland and Wales also have their national flags as does Northern Ireland and all of these togehter make up the Union Jack, which is the falg of the United Kingdom, which appears on the Aussie and Kiwi flags.

Basic education? Last time i checked, my "basic education" in flags of countries I never visit and learned in 8th grade History class hasn't been called upon as a mortgage broker. :lighten:

As for all those flags, if you know them, good for you. I could care less for the most part. The USA has 1 flag, one set of colors that represent it and no separate "sporting colors". The USA has 50individual states with their own state flags, sure. But nobody except maybe some dude from Texas is seen sporting a flag from his state wrapped around his shoulders at an international event.

mmm... someone needs some education on things outside the US and A. Green and gold are the national colours of Australia, as proclaimed by Sir Ninian Stephen, the Governor General of Australia on 19 April 1984. The exact colours were specified as being Pantone Matching System numbers 116C and 348C. Green and gold are also the traditional team colours of Australian national sporting teams. Nearly every current Australian national sports teams wears "The Green and Gold", although the hues and proportions of the two colours may vary between teams and across eras. It is widely believed that the colours were chosen because they are the dominant colours of Australia's floral emblem, the Golden Wattle which is a dominant feature of the Australian Coat of Arms.

The Australian flag has a Union Jack, the Southern Cross and a large star called the Commonwealth Star which represents the 6 states and 2 territories. A quick look at a wiki will help your education. :-)

Knowing what the flags of some of the world's largest or most well known countries look like isn't something that I pride myself on or have made specific attempts to learn it's just the kinda thing that everyone in my little spoondick island knows.

I suppose we are lucky in Europe to see so many different international sporting events all the time, it's not a luxury you guys in the US have seen as your domestic scenes in nearly every sport are pretty big.

Which would explain why I didn't know..considering I was in 8th grade when this change occured and my history book at that time was most likely 3 years old.

It's better to use google for such questins, since some people might find it insulting. But you are correct, it's imposible to know all flags...
About Swiss, this is Swiss flag, English flag is similar to red cross or Georgia flag (from very large distance).
