Kingdom Trails seems to be moving in the direction of becoming an expensive overcrowded pain in the ass. Perhaps they have been killed by success? If we pull this off we should start to discuss other options for next year.
+1 This kinda sucks, although I can see the reasoning behind the new restrictions. I don't hold it against the new owners, just that the situation itself sucks.

I still can't commit one way or the other. There's going to be a lot going on this summer for me. I might be better off holding out for fall MF, if we have one.

As of right now, nothing is sure for Melou and me, sure would be a bit embarrassing to take a spot for our baby girl....

And it all depend on our vacation dates too (should know in a week or so), we might be camping out or completely skip MF this year (worst case scenario)... I'll put a bit of pressure on the other in front of me for is vacation dates and let you know as soon as I know.
I don't think they would count her as taking a spot anyway :) but they do require me to list any children on the lease agreement (insurance purposes or something along those lines).

This all sounds like growing pains for East Burke. It's not unexpected though; combine 500 some odd people coming in every weekend but leaving during the week and constable hurfnurf isn't going to know what to do with himself. Sounds to me like more of a governmental/support issue than it has anything to do with KT being a draw to the area. It also sounds to me like somebody on the town board has a problem with the old owners of the lodge. I mean, there's NOTHING in that area. NOTHING. It's a grass field. How can you have a problem with 10 cars being parked there when there's NOTHING that it interferes with? It's just curmudgeonry and/or NIMBYism....hopefully they can sort it out before it grows out of control or stops growing at all.

That being said, I'm OK with playing by the rules for Monkeyfest, and I'm happy to pay $100 if need be. I always have a good time, and usually have plenty of fun on the trails as well.

I wouldn't be surprise to learn at some point that at least one of the town board member have one or more property for rent and that it's not always rented... Limiting the number of people per house for rent might give him/them more chance to rent theirs....

Since a couple years, the Monkeyfest is the same date as our bike festival in East-Hereford (45min up-north of KTA). This year, we changed our date to July 12-14th so I expect to see at least some Monkey over there. Treesaw, that means you!

Shuttle run on Friday, guided group rides on Sat and race on Sun (40 to 80km, if you're up to it).

PS. We have beer.

YEAH!!!! I really want to come up this year. We'll have to see if we can impose upon my folks twice in the same month (to watch the girls).

one of the town elders is the owner of the campground.

For my part I've got a few secluded spot nearby to park the Westy for the night, but would be nice to be able to at least park the van at the lodge for the late night shenanigans!

As far as new options, I know Pierre at Millstone Hill got a few lodging options and campsite, he's got a nice barn on two levels that he rents, think it sleeps 12 in beds, but wonder if he would alow more people, and tent pitching in the huge yard next to the barn... Millstone would be a great change of venue...

Millstone would indeed be a nice venue too. Something to check into at least!

IMHO I wouldn't put any money down yet TreeSaw. Tell them it's too far to pay that kind of deposit but to please let you know if anyone else shows interest in that weekend because you are still interested but seeing how it's 4 months away you can't get people to commit.

That, or get all these slackers to give you a deposit.

This whole thing really bites. I'd love to go to Millstone........ I'd even camp if someone could show me how to set up my tent again LOL

i'd be open to alternatives...i do love me some KT though. I just can't understand small town politics getting in the way of renting a vacation property...blergh

D2 +1 (Matt) definite. We can stay until Monday but Sunday is no problem either. We may book a camp site on Sunday and hit Pine Hill on Monday.

Count me in as definite as well if we move to another venue. It's the company, not the location that makes these trips a blast.

My vote would still be for KT because it has both XC trails and lift access DH trails at Burke Mtn.

I would obviously be open to another location for Monkeyfest even if it didn't have DH trails. I go to Monkeyfest for the people/shenanigans... not the trails. Although, us western NY'ers would prefer that if you guys are going to plan it at another location that it not be any farther away for us since we already drive almost 8hrs just to get to KT each year.

I'm in for Thurs - Sun.
KT is my first choice as well. I know the campground usually fills up quick, but any thoughts on camping?

Plus 2 now - Doug Paris will join us for the first time this year. Yes, he's into craft beer AND he likes bacon.

I'll be there with mudgirl and three others but we'll be camping.

Who's up for drunken night laps on Burnham instead of the living room time trial this year?
