2014 Fox 40 Float FIT Tuning Thread

I've ridden the 40 Float all season this year at Snowshoe, WV (some rough rocky, rooty trails; some machine built smoothies - a nice mix). I've finalized my Float 40 tune now, and am in a totally different tuning philosophy than most of you who have posted. I'm curious what you all think of...

I've ridden a Manitou on a DHX5 before. The Manitou coils are slightly bigger, but they work fine. This one is about 2 1/2 years old, I think. It came on an '07 V-10 that I bought second hand last year. I don't know if that guy bought it new or not. I bought a new shock when I got that...

    Chainsmoke

So that's what's going on! I never realized how hooked I was on Chainsmoke.net until it went down this weekend. I'm planning a trip to the Shoe this weekend and wanted to ask what the local trail conditions are like. J. C.

    26 West Season

I called Ryan today to get the official word on 26 West closing weekend. The plan right now is to be open through November 9th. If we hit a warming trend, then he may keep the park open a little longer. If the weather turns rotten for the 8th and 9th, then he may shut down early. The...

    26 West Season

Arrrggg! I am planning to ride 26 West on Nov 2nd! Please say it'll close "the weekend of Nov 1st" and not "Nov 1st"!!! J. C.

2003 monster t spring change and seals

That's great! I've found the 2001 service manual, but the '01's are too different than the '03's. The '06 that you pointed me to is VERY similar. I'll tear down the fork this weekend and see if I can use the manual to help pull out the stock springs. Thanks for the URL!!! :happydance:

2003 monster t spring change and seals

I've got a '03 Monster T and I've got some "heavy" springs. Now I need to open the Monster and install the heavies. I grabbed a wrench and loosened the nut/top cap, but something has hold of it on the inside. Presumably it's the hydrolic cartridge. I assumed this was as easy as: "remove top...

Choose Fork for BigHit: 66, Monster T, or DJ2

Ok, so I decided to keep the Monster T. Mainly because it was SO plush and I really need some money (the 66 will sell for more scratch than the Monster). I took the bike for the first ride yesterday. MAN that Monster is plush. Wow! I know this is a tiny gap jump compared to what most...

Choose Fork for BigHit: 66, Monster T, or DJ2

I'm building up a shuttle bike for Snowshoe. It's an '03 BigHit. I weigh 210 lbs., so the bike and fork need to be burly, although I'm a wuss and won't be doing big drops or gap jumps. I just want to bomb down the mountain with the occasional 6' drop or tabletop jump here and there. I have...

Yeti 575 on Wolf and Sugar?

Is a Yeti 575 a good bike for the new Wolf Laurel lift-access park and Sugar mountain? I've been an XC rider living near Raleigh for 15 years. Last Fall some friends took me to Snowshoe. WOW! I'm hooked! I'm selling my 8 year-old 100mm travel bike and want to buy a 6" travel AM rig. I'll...

XL Yeti 575 or XL Enduro SL near Raleigh?

I am thinking about getting a Yeti 575 or Spec Enduro SL for my next bike. I'm 6'5" and would like to do a parking lot test before buying it. Anyone have an XL 575 or XL Enduro SL near Raleigh, NC, that they'd be willing to let me do a test fit on? Thanks, J. C.

    Marzocchi 66 ATA Pressure setup

I weigh 210 and am only doing some XC riding right now. I can't afford a FR bike and a XC bike, so my Morewood Shova LT is my (38 lbs) do it all bike. I live in the piedmont of NC and I have my '07 66 ATA SL1 set at 85psi top, 130 bottom, 0 in the RC2 leg. I just bottomed the fork out on...

    Help removing DHX 5 coil???

This doc was most helpful: Reducer Removal PDF In it, it shows a stainless steel bushing that matches what I have. It also shows using a vice to get the bushing in. So I used my vice to get the bushing moved over as far as I could and then made some grab-blocks to safely and securely...

    Help removing DHX 5 coil???

I took the shock off my bike but cannot figure out how to get the coil off the shock. I assume the axel bushing thingy needs to be removed somehow, but I'm not sure how. Do I need special tools to do that??

Large Morewood Shova *near* Raleigh, NC?

willie b - I'm talking with Dogboy now - his frame isn't built up right now. Actually, his is the Shova I'm thinking of buying. He's 5'10" and I'm 6'5". I want to make sure the frame will fit me before I sell my car to pay for it. :)

Large Morewood Shova *near* Raleigh, NC?

I'm thinking about getting a Shova LT frameset, but I'm 6'5" and fear I'm beyond the large end of the spectrum for this frame. I'd mainly use it for shuttle runs (Snowshoe and Sugar), but would like to be able to ride it on the local trails, too. Anyone have one of these within a few...

    Morewood Shova LT Review

To measure the true TT, you insert a seat post and measure horizontally from the top, center of the HT to the center of the seat post, right? I want to compare your 22" measurement to my current bike. Thanks! J. C.

    Morewood Shova LT Review

I'm looking to build a <38 lbs. 7"x7" lightFR/all-around bike myself. My goals are very similar to yours (as far as weight and purpose of the bike) and see you're riding the large frame size. How tall are you? I'm 6'5" and wonder if the large Shova would fit me. Thanks, J. C.
