nigel page balances out warner quite well I think, whitely is good, just way to methodical, Nigel gets the right balance with knowing his history and knowing what its like to ride, that paired with Warner is pretty spot on!
No-one think this is noteworthy?? He keeps his feet up almost the whole way down and when he does dab you can see him clearly unclip for it.Also, FWIW, I think Danny was on clips.....!
I was giving this some thought today, it seems we've come full circle from the (very tired) clips/flats debate, I've always thought of clipped in riders as being very precise riders, obviously pinned but not loose, think Minaar/Peaty. Then the likes of Hill/Kovarick/Rennie are obvious flat pedal riders exploding berms and generally riding like they've stole it. Now we have two world champs that are loose as fook, clipped in and just absolutely pinned! Awesome stuff!No-one think this is noteworthy?? note worthy yes but most of us are still picking our jaws off the floor.No-one think this is noteworthy?? He keeps his feet up almost the whole way down and when he does dab you can see him clearly unclip for it.
I think its more to do with their size, both have been riding for years and started when they were midgets (no offense intended). If they rode the same way on flats they would be getting ejected every second turn/root/rock, rather than by choice it was more likely by necessity that they started on clips and its worked ever since.I was giving this some thought today, it seems we've come full circle from the (very tired) clips/flats debate, I've always thought of clipped in riders as being very precise riders, obviously pinned but not loose, think Minaar/Peaty. apparently some brilliant soul uploaded a video of Hart's run to YouTube at least...
you probably won't remember Warner's style way back, he was one of very few flat pedal riders to do well at WC level then, Pascal being the other main one both were amazing mud riders and both had the goofiest looking foot position and pedalling styles going but Rob was a much more precise (not loose) feet up rider than any flat pedal rider seems to be these days.I was giving this some thought today, it seems we've come full circle from the (very tired) clips/flats debate, I've always thought of clipped in riders as being very precise riders, obviously pinned but not loose, think Minaar/Peaty. Dannys run was just pure crazieness. I mean on the jumps he looked like he was doing some bikepark session.
Nah, must be before my time, can't ever remember seeing any footage of Warner. A few pics here and there but not a great deal.you probably won't remember Warner's style way back, he was one of very few flat pedal riders to do well at WC level then, Pascal being the other main one both were amazing mud riders and both had the goofiest looking foot position and pedalling styles going but Rob was a much more precise (not loose) feet up rider than any flat pedal rider seems to be these days.
No I don't. People were bitching about Nigel after La Bresse when Rob was away. I like him and Whitely both. You really couldn't confuse the two.Nigel Page and Martin Whitely sound nothing alike, but you seem to have them confused.
You should've seen France this yeardidn't realise you rode in the mud Mark
Blenkinsop has miles of style and is generally quite consistent (barring the injury this year). Very glad to see him pick up the bronze here.3. Blenki was getting close a stunner run.
Gwin didn't make it to the bridge, he rode off the course before he got to it.Hart seemed like the only rider to hold control top to bottom. I give him props for mentioning Gwin at the end. You could tell he wanted to beat him on time, not by an error. That's being competitive.
Bummed for Gwin. I've always hated bridges on DH courses. I know they're needed sometimes, but they always seem to suck a wheel off course in the wrong place. Doesn't help that they are usually the most treacherous part of a course too and always slicker than glass.
you take things too seriously. i meant it more in the sense of young gunners vs. veteran racers. not necessarily riding style. Those who see the world only as Old School vs New School are missing most of the world.
"New School" Ropelato got 72d. I'd say he got spanked by the course, despite his New School Pump Track Flow Trail Progressing the Sport chops.
The only school that's ever the Winning School is skills plus confidence plus calmness plus fun. Anyone can possess those things on any given day.
that sucks... i just watched it this morning. dude's views must have skyrocketed and he got nervous about copyright infringement. no other options at the moment that i know of.Anybody have a link to a non private video of his race run?
And yet even if he'd not bobbled, he'd have still gotten blasted by maybe 8 seconds. Pretty scary to think Hart was still that much faster.Blenkinsop has miles of style and is generally quite consistent (barring the injury this year). Very glad to see him pick up the bronze here.
I'm saying I just wanted to see how his run would have compared. Did not imply he was "Gwinning". Less than a second off Hart and a boatload ahead of everyone else makes me want to see a full run from him that much more to see just how mean Hart's run was.6. his time was 4:02.4 all his splits were slower than harts, not just the one he where he crashed
And you and I both know what it's like to ride right at a bridge at full speed with any hesitation. You could let me choose a piece of muddy singletrack or slab of greasy bridge twice it's width between me and a shark pool at 40 mph and I'd still pick the singletrack.Gwin didn't make it to the bridge, he rode off the course before he got to it.
I wasn't able to watch all of Gwin's run, but I thought that while he was slower at the top splits, he was only about a second off when he crashed. Point being, I think Hart was still going to win, but I think Gwin was going to make it very interesting if he stayed up.6. his time was 4:02.4 all his splits were slower than harts, not just the one he where he crashed
ah Pascal 5th! he's pretty old school in my book. Here is something that I found interesting...
Sam Hill 7th
Minnaar 8th
Fabien 10th
Peat 17th
Hannah 39th
Riffle 42nd
Gee 52nd
The old school guys got pounded by this track. Its safe to say Hill is back on form. Gwins 12th is not too shabby considering it took him FOREVER to get his bike out of the netting. And freakin Mitch Ropelato was 2nd fastest through the speed trap! Thats something to be stoked on for him!
the whip is epic, but for some reason the part at about 1:00 in that video just blows me away. the speed that he is going at through those humps is just mental.
