Nope, just use the universal paint stripper and strip it. Just bring it on and cover the frame with some plastic (to prevent drying the paint stripper out) and remove it HP watercleaner. It doesn't need any clearcoat, aluminium makes a natural proctection layer because of the oxidation process.

The cranks are great. Light and pretty strong, I ran some of the older XT's on a Socom a few years ago and they lasted well. I thought I'd give them another go.

How are the angled cups with the slackers? What angle cup did you use? Any chance you can post a nice side shot to get a perspective? I'm thinking of getting the cc angleset and a single crown. thanks and the ride looks nice raw.

It rides really perfect, it's a complete different feeling. The bike is more stabile at speed and the front runs better over obstacles. The offset is -1 and that 1 degree is a real big difference. But with a single crown???...... i've run before a totem in the socom with slackers but the bb was really low and i hit alot my pedals and with the angled set the bb will get even lower!!

I figured that the AC is the same from a Totem to a Boxxer so that shouldn't change too much. I was also thinking of putting the stock dropouts back on with the 1.5 angle cup. That may keep the BB a bit higher, not sure though.

Thanks, i've was really thinking about buying a new frame but then i thought why?? There all the same just a few differences in the geo, so when i can change that then i'm done. and the angeld set gave me options and the result was stunning. I've also liked the Socom to much, light, strong and playfull!

I won't do that, the slackers also give it a longer wheelbase then the CC. And for the Totem i know they say the AC is the same but the Boxxer fits the Socom way better then the Totem. I would never go back.

How do you like that wheelset!!! Looked at em today at bikebling look pretty nice... what do they weigh and is there alot of flex?
Mine came in 39 with 2.5 DH casings 3 scoops of stans per tire and the avalanche suspension... Havent had a bike near 40 for a while.... Then again a 2.5 schwalbe DH is like a 2.7 maxxis its a BIG tire... So Ill run 2.35 DHs or 2.5 single plys next season...

I have the 2008 "The Ones" which are going on my trail bike and I'm ordering the 2011 Ones for the DH bike. They are about 150g lighter for the entire system.

I haven't had a chance to ride the wheels yet, I killed my pedals a couple weeks ago and I'm waiting for a few more parts to come in. Hopefully next weekend though...

They are about 2050 grams.

Theres an additional 1 1/2 lb easily....

Still not bad mines right at 37 right now and I like it, good weight...
I still think 38 is the sweet spot for me, 37 deflects a tad and 40 is a bit less lively...

The good new is, the E.13 Crankset is just as strong as they claimed it is. That was the only thing that seemed to survive my case-o-rama.

i put on my new Dorado Pro today!

Yup, I checked. The front wheel is about 1 inch off the ground. No other part of the bike in contact with the stand either.

not too shabby...i've got nothing "titanium" or "carbon".
