If anyone knows the guy riding with his son (tiny blue and white demo) tell him I have a good video of his son coming down the am course. I can email it if he wants it..
Hey! Thanks for the post about Ben. I'm a rare sight on this message board, but appreciate the help from Clealan and Jay connecting me to you. Sure! would love some video of Ben...he hates it when I do that, so I don't really get any good stuff.

You're not the only one who botched that drop at the top of the Pro course. I went head-first into the ground.....

Well, seems like the drop got bigger from last year. Part of it was just user error, didnt scope it out at all. Landed front heavy first time, figured I just needed more speed. Clearly that wasn't the answer.

Nationals course aimed you across the rocks to the left of the drop. Not one person hucked it opening weekend. It was a marsh of epic proportions.
Negative ghostrider, it took the same route for nationals. The entire mountain was soaked during opening weekend and somewhat through the following weekend. If you saw it this past weekend however, you wouldn't even believe it was the same place. West coast fluffy dry dirt for days. We actually needed rain after that.

TRAIL UPDATE: All, we are currently developing a better beginner trail from the top of the mountain to Summer Rd. Sorry it took so long, we had been waiting for confirmation from another land owner to build something far rider's left on the mountain but that fell through. With decent weather, it should be good to go by this weekend. It will also have a couple of Blue (intermediate) spurs off of it once we confirm EXACTLY where a certain 2100 volt power line runs up the mountain through a woods section.

moto, on opening weekend there was a left hand berm built on the right off of the rock lander and then a second right hand berm past it. All that fresh dirt was a bog is all I was trying to say.

There's a trail on the map I didn't notice last week . All My Love? I know there was a fresh trail up top on the left that I was told was very new and gooey opening day from all the rain that just ended at the pavement. Didn't check it out.

Don't recognize the lower half of it as any race course or trail previously on the mountain?

That trail is being decommissioned and replaced with a much more beginner friendly route which will have a few switchbacks down White Lightning and traverse under the quad lift towards Southern Star and end over near where the AM track hits the road.

I would not expect it to be any other way. If you want to ride Beech when dry, go when there's no race. If you want it muddy come race.
It'll be dry for Saturday practice. And then everyone's practice will go out the window when it rains the morning of the race.

In the old days when a lot of the course there was out on the slopes, the guy who ran them was really good at using his timing system. He'd just call "Next" and you could walk right up when you felt like going. There was a group of about 5-10 of us that would hide up at the gazebo to be the last ones down the mountain.

That place would rain Friday night and dry out bone dry by 2pm (slopes, not the woods).

Beech is awesome. So glad you are building trails and running lifts...

What's up with the 2"x4" posts for the trail signage?

Very excited to get up there. Contemplating coming up this and/or next weekend. If folks who are there could post up re: conditions I (and I'm sure others) will appreciate it. See you on the hill!

Dr. Mike, conditions are prime to slightly moist. Clear skies right now, and tomorrow (Saturday) looks to be the best day of the whole weekend. Get on out!

I wanted to thank Beech Mountain and staff for making my 8 yr old's first DH experience a great one to remember. He had a great time and did not want to stop riding. I think he is hooked. The weather was great
and the lower beginner trail was dry and in good shape. Once the top is finished this will be an excellent trail for beginners.

There were quite a few riders out this past Saturday and overall good vibes from everyone
except for the last run when he went to look at the last rock drop before the lift after the table tops
and apparently ruined someones race run. Apologies for the inconvenience. He did not know and I quickly moved him out of the way as he was being shouted at.

He will however definitely come back to ride again. Thanks again to the staff and trailbuilders for doing a great job.

If someone shouts at a kid that's permission to knock the person shouting off the bike and throw it off the drop.
Beech is definitely one of the best bike parks I've ridden because of the number of runs u can get in and the terrain. Overall cool vibe from most the riders and staff.

CLos, if you're kid is 8, what trails did you take 'em on? I wanted to bring my girls on their hardtails, but didn't see any way to get them off the top half of the mountain without going down a black.

Dying for a full green run to get them up there. :thumb:

Butch, All My Love is a green that starts at the top and goes down to the paved road. Then take the paved road down til you pass both AM and Pro courses and take Whole Lotta Love to the the bottom. I haven't ridden either but that is where I see all of the casual riders/kids going after getting off of the lift.

As Jager said we took the paved road (think it was OZ) down to all my love because new beginner section was not complete. It looks like it will be about the same grade as All My Love once done. From there on he was good to go.:thumb:

He was loving the Big Hit Grom and my elbow guards worked as mini shin guards:)

Hard to say for sure, but it looks like Thursday will be very wet, but things appear to be improving for the weekend in terms of weather. I'd say if the deluges end Thursday, Saturday and Sunday will be good riding conditions. I hope to be there on Sunday myself.

Thanks. I think I'll hold out til there is a full green top to bottom. To take them and the missus on hardtails would be $120 to ride half of one trail. Can't take one without taking the others.:)
