Well, I think it is a good idea to get some bling paint on the frame but I think I would leave the fork black....most forks I have seen painted do not look good IMHO...

Guess we'll have to see. I've never seen any painted Avy forks myself. Get some Mango Chris King hubs for sure though.

Anyone got any vids of BMWs in action?

As far as I know you cant run a CK rear hub on a RL, but I might be wrong.
yup you are wrong. brake therapy i think still makes that chris king 12mm thru axle conversion. so you could, and i believe theres a bunch of folks that have been running this setup for a year or so

i'd still recommend Hadley above all everything else though

For downhill, Hadley makes a better hub. The CK hub is a very light weight XC/trail hub. The Hadley's are designed for DH and are much stronger than the CK's are.

hey jimmy pop,
I was looking through threads for hopey info, and it looked like you had one, as well as an avalanche.

Why did you get rid of them? I was recently given a hopey and I want to install it, but seems like a lot of people think it takes away from the ride.

i've had a hopey. downfall you may want one for each bike. but it also does take away from the ride a bit. not to say its cheating, cause a lot of pros use it. but its different.
i just don't like how it installs below the upper headset cup. its not an issue. plus the latest ones i've seen look a bit better.

also you could sell it on mtbr.com for about $150

Yo sand, I liked the Hopey and they way it performed. Because i prefer such a short stem,(30mm) it did not work very well for me so i sold it. You really need a 50mm or longer for proper installation. The integrated stems work best i think.

As far as the Avy forks, if you like them, go for it. With all the new forks on the market, they do not nearly have the damping superiority that they did a few years ago. And the weight penalty offsets the rest IMHO. The triple clamps twist like a mofo in a crash. I could not get friendly, hassle free service out of Avy so i sold my fork.

I noticed that about the service. I think the forks are pretty killer, but I don't think I'd buy one new, I wouldn't want to deal with "them". I still haven't recieved a return email about my spring rub issue (a month ago). I did notice the twisting, took me a while to reset it, not something I expected from something so overbuilt.

Well thanks for the input, I like to get other peoples opinions on things. I don't have enough ride time on it to count it out. Think I'll get a new post and install the hopey, see how it rides. Thanks!

I am surprised about your comments about Avalanche CS. I have never had a problem dealing with Craig, - on the contrary, CS has been awesome when calling about an issue or needing parts in a hurry. Also, I normally get a mail response within 24 hours. I can only recommend Avalanche.

OMG until now i thought i was taking crazy pills. I think Avy cs is more or less like russian roulette. He's either real nice or he's really not. I also got the later out of him.

I got a very late start this year and finally got to swing a leg over her - 2 days at Killington and 2 days at Diablo and I have fallen back in love with my RL. (and I discovered how sweet the flying is at Diablo!) I feel like I am posting nudies of my wife... but here it goes!

Also - I am selling my Avalanche fork - the dual damper DH8 if anyone is interested...

Damn Jimmy, clean looking rig. That front rotor looks massive, is that a ten?
231mm to me exact. (9") rotor. It was cheaper to have a custom rotor made than buy the super expensive adapter from Magura to fit the fox40.

Tony - Bah. i hear ya but it wasnt the forks fault that it broke. Pretty sure the Avy would have folded too. I had an avy once, I just dont like up side down forks.
