How would you fix that?
there is the quick way and there is the right way. If you need to hit the road now. clean up the old sealant with methyl alcohol and apply a layer of self leveling dicor lap sealant over the old seal.

If you have time remove the old lap sealant with a plastic putty knife, clean up with methyl alcohol dig out any rot and apply a layer of self leveling dicor lap sealant over where the old seal was. if there are any large gaps to fill you may use butyl putty to fill them before applying the dicor

Exactly what do you mean by "plastic putty knife"?

The leaky vent fan turned into one of those standard RV maintenance/repair exercises.

The roof has an aluminum framed 14 1/2" square cutout for the vent fan. The fan's flange is 13 3/4". All would be fine if in assembly the fan was centered in the hole before fastening from the top. Mounting screws should penetrate fiberglass skin, 1/2" of plywood, and thread into the square section aluminum frame.

It'd be Manufacturing Engineering 101 work to fabricate a centering jig, but no, the fan got jammed in the frame all the way forward and to starboard. Result was that aft screws mostly missed the frame and were either just at the edge of the plywood or in air, one barely missing the DC feed to the fan. One forward screw was missing, never put in, one was held in with nothing. After it was hairballed together, a massive stripe of self-leveling sealant was smeared over the mess.

I peeled off the sealant, replaced two screws and the missing screw with stainless steel, cleaned it all up, and re-sealed. Someday when I'm feeling heroic I'll take the whole damn thing out and reinstall it, centered and with all stainless screws.

I ran out of sound deadener. I need 1 more roll, it should be here by Friday. With that and one more sheet of foam board, I will have the whole box insulated.

Blue is AC, red is Chromebook, green is USB ports and yellow are lights.

I am doing an overhead cabinet for all the stuff. The batteries will be in a drawer bellow with the inverter on top.

The key was to have room for the wife to be able to recline. So a high/low setup was in order.

^^I think I will stick with the truck camper.vs a van or a motorhome thank you very much
I doubt a truck with several thousand pounds extra in and above the bed would do much better in dissipating that excess kinetic energy.

yeah but no appliances, tables or other bullshit flying unimpeded through the cabin into the back of your head. fridge, furnace, stove, batteries are all below the pickup bed level in my rig. only thing in the cab over height in a small microwave in a cabinet and the mattress in the cabover. the propane tanks are strapped in a compartment just above the rear tires. The truck cab itself is much better constructed and crash tested than the other RVs The camper itself has a welded aluminum frame and is secured directly to the trucks frame not the sheet metal of the bed

Had some time to kill while waiting for a tire rotation and wandered across the street to the RV dealer. I really liked one of the new Lance truck campers, but the fucking thing was $43K. Too rich for my blood.

Methinks I'll keep an eye out for a 4 wheel camper to replace ours when the time comes.

Huh, first time in all of our travels that we have encountered an age cutoff. In the city of Portland, depending upon which RV park you stay at, your RV cannot be more than 10-15 years old.

Just FYI @jimmydean in case you feel like spending a night in the city.

I'd heard about that if you were trying to stay in the parking lots at the Vegas casinos, but never a regular RV park. Some people with an expensive restored Airstream were very upset :D

Which apps have you been using to track down your camp spots @Adventurous ? I stuck iOverlander on my phone yesterday and it seems underwhelming, Ultimate Public Campground required I pay tree fiddy or so, so I haven't tried that one yet.

We had no issues staying in the parking lot behind the Bally's. Stayed 3 or so nights, 2 of which the gate magically lifted up for us so we went through for free.

We mostly use www.freecampsites.net and www.campendium.com . They dont list all free stuff (not all Walmarts, rest areas, Cabelas, or Cracker Barrels), but they are pretty good on the rest.

Wow, I have never heard this. It's insured through Hagerty as a "classic", maybe they will let me slide if it's hipster vintage.
