Before the season even started I had soooooooo many vols fans talking **** about them being ranked number two....I just kept my mouth shut. And here we are...they loose to Bama even with Prothro being out. hmmm. Maybe you shouldn't talk so much until you know what your team can do. Bama went from unranked for the first couple of weeks up to 5th. Where is UT again? Are the even still ranked? Barely, I guess.

Oh how I love college football

yeah...unfortunately the B12 is not so hot this year, so USC's recapturing of the #1 spot is inevitable. Brown and Young both acknowledge that in the paper today. if UT doesn't make the Rose Bowl, there are going to be a lot of sad faces around here.

From what I hear, as long as you guys don't lose, there's slim chance of VTech passing you.

yeah, they have 2 ranked teams left on their schedule. A&M is the only team left on 'our' schedule with more than 1 win. sad. i can see the controversy already...

3 undefeateds at the end of the season...USC and VT in the Rose Bowl, Texas in the Sugar, Orange, or Fiesta Bowl. VT beats USC, Texas handles whoever they play "with authority", and end up with BCS and AP polls having different #1s. if only Notre Dame had beat USC....

I think ucla and berkeley will be the toughest games this year - including whoever shows up at the Rose Bowl to play us.

Miami...controlling this game. rather easily, it appears.

that RB for Miami, #34, is a strong runner.

Joe Pa...coach of the year? he would get my vote.
he gets my vote too although it will probably be Charlie Weiss.

Once they announce the bowl game for PSU I'll be booking my flight - hoping for Tempe so I can stretch out the week and get some riding in.

USC lost 1st place votes in 3 major polls...i bet UT takes the #1 spot in the BCS (not that it really matters, it's just nice to see here in Austin). i don't know if rankings change during conference championships, if so, i'm sure USC will get it back.

Just got back from the game. Reggie Bush is amazing... 513 all-purpose yards.
What the hell was that all about?

I betcha USC could beat the NY Jets right now. Seriously. Did anyone see the Jets "performance" against Denver yesterday? There is no way the USC offense would have done any worse against Denver. Who's you rather have right now: Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush, or whoever the hell the Jets throw out for QB and RB?

College football is totally frustrating for me. My alma mater (and current workplace) has had a crappy football history over the last 25 years. 3 winning seasons, 3 rinky-dink bowl games and only 1 win in those bowls. Sheesh! Yet, every year I still manage to think that this is the season that they turn it around for good. To make matters worse, my boss takes sick pleasure in taunting me about it (freakin' Texas alum).

That said, I see an 8-3 season this year! Go Tigers!
The Tigers finished 6-5 with ANOTHER pissant bowl game on the horizon. Oh well, at least they beat the snot out of Nebraska.:D

Congrats to George O'leary for being named the SI and CBS sportline coach of the year.

C-USA is not big time like the SEC or ACC but it is still a big accomplishment to have a team that was winless last year and then take them to the Conference championship the next.

Coach of the Year
George O'Leary, Central Florida: O'Leary deserves this award for no other reason than he engineered one of the biggest turnarounds in NCAA history, taking UCF from 0-11 to 8-3. That he's done it with mostly freshmen and sophomores makes it all the more amazing. I spent the last week reporting on the Golden Knights for a piece in this week's Sports Illustrated, and I can vouch for the fact that O'Leary -- who lost the Notre Dame job four years ago because of inconsistencies on his resume -- doesn't have a lot of talent in Orlando. What he does have is a bunch of kids who are committed to each other and their coach. O'Leary's turned his team around on the field and in the classroom. College football -- with its boosters, sketchy recruiting practices and winking acknowledgement of the student-athlete ideal -- can make you cynical sometimes. But there's something happening at UCF that can make everybody feel good.

I wouldnt under estimate the "talent" he has at UCF. He has a lot of athletes on that team.

He is still a coaching stud, UCF has come a LONG way, and will continue to see great success.

Yeah, he is still a good coach that made a mistake which cost him dearly. The question is, how long before a big time program hires him away from UCF?

Keeping the topic on coaches...I see that UF fans are already tired of Urban Meyer. That didn't take long for them to get fed up with him...Last year he was being hailed as a god.

Eh there is always a vocal minority. IMHO the Gator nation still thinks he is talented. However he just needs to give up on the "Spread option" as the only way to go.

Seriously if at the end of the year he says something like. I have learned a lot from my first year in the SEC and I am looking forward to making some changes and making a bigger impact next year, he will be loved for at least another season.

If he says something like. I know the Spread Option is tough to learn, but by next year we will have it down, he along with Foley will be out on their perverbial butts really fast

UCF is a pube hair away from being a big time program. They are in the right state with access to all kinds of athletes and the alumni is huge and growing. They will probably have the money to keep him there so long as Notre Dame or some one comes calling.

But the spread offense is the reason he was brought to Florida. The thing is that you won't really know if it will work or not until he gets his players in there. Chris Leak is not the right fit for the spread offense, he is a very good pocket passer but not the most mobile QB out there. Right now he is trying to implement his system with Zook's players, which isn't going to work. The problem is that at Florida you don't have the luxury of time.

Hopefully that will be the case...It is amazing how much UCF has grown in the past 15 years. I remember my freshmen year ('88) that enrollment was 10k and we had just moved up to D2. They say that within the next five years it will become the biggest Univ. (enrollment wise) in the state. That growth rate still blows my mind...
