So has anyone ridden the CRF250X?? Any ride reviews would be much appriciated!
The CRF250X is a good bike. The only thing I can't stand about it is that it is VERY stiff. Too stiff. I prefer Yamaha and Suzuki/Kawasaki. Then again, I only ride on MX tracks. Oh, yeah, MX hurts wayyyy more. Usually, when you crash, you hit the ground, then you get pounded into the ground by your 220lb. motorcycle, or someone else.

You know mike, If I were going to buy a 4 stroke, don't worry I'm not, It would be that crf 250. It's the only thumper that I've ever ridden, and I've ridden most, that I like even a little. But that's just my opinion.

Oh yeah, F your couch.

I just think DH is gay, seriously. I think you guys, for the most part, have moto envy, MXer wannabes if you will.
:thumb: My name is Alex. I ride DH at plattekill mountain and other area resorts every weekend in the summer. I will pay for gas, your lift ticket and loan you a DH bike. PM me if you would like to ride sometime. I would be more than happy to give you a tour. :thumb:

Think of it all like this: A MX racer (lets say Bubba)could not enter a pro DH race and win it. A DH racer(Prokop) could not win a pro MX race. It's that simple. These are specialists who are trained and have great experience in their respected fields. oh, yeah, remember when Roger DeCoster broke his collarbone--on a bicycle?

Sweet Dude! I was thinking about coming back east to go to the Dilla, this summer. I live in Vail Co, it's going to cost you though cause I drive an E250 the pig only gets 12mpg or so. But I'll save you a few bucks on the lift ticket, I've never put my bike on a chairlift and I'm not going to start anytime soon. 6 or 8 hundred bucks should cover the round trip fuel cost, thanks agin man, I'll PM you with my address you can send me out a check.

Hey peckerhead, I don't know it you're employed or not, but I wear armor because I have a job and I need my arms and legs to be functional in order to earn money to pay for things.

Yeah, I gues sean palmer is a bit_h also for racing DH (wearing gear).
Dude you need to ride a good dh course and reealize that you can't throttle out of a situation. Sure in DH you can apply your front or rear brake to pitch the bike like mx but once again you don't have a throttle to correct the decision.
Try a good DH course and I'll bring a video camera so we can see how rat turd crashes and how pads are a fashion statement, then we can put the video here for all the monkeys to see and you can start your barrage of excusses as to why you pussed out on alot of it. Then after you get impelled/crushed/mamed and or broke your bones you can explain to all of us why gear wouldn't have helped.

I think you should show up at a Platty Race and let all us DH'rs know how you feel. Why knock another sport because you can't/won't do it. What are you 13?

He already said he would never put his bike on the lift. That's fine he can ride to the top and I'll meet him up there.

First off, I ride dirtbikes and DH bikes. I wear the same amount of gear for both, just a little different stuff. You may not be able to tell, but most MX/dirt bike riders are wearing knee pads under their pants and boots, they are also wearing chest protectors/spine protectors and usually kidney belts too. Some wear elbow pads but not too many. I actually wear my Dianese upper for both DH and Dirtbiking, but I ride a lot of tight wooded stuff and want a little more protection from sticks and getting kabobbed. So I'm not sure where you got your info, but chances are your just trying to be cool and start a flame thread, and don't really know much about anything. Boring.
Same here...where my uppers, different knee pads, kidney belt, and big 'ol mx boots while riding MX. Now we just need to get dirtbikes again :(

Why not protect ourselves? Besides, all the "cool kids" are doing it ;)

Really I like the superman complex all that padding gives me...well that, and I don't feel the need to break myself in half if padding could save me. Trust me, mine get used...alot! :D

DH and MX racing are not the same at all. Perioid. Totally different type of racing, even if the bikes are a similar style.

I would say freeride mtb has some FMX envy, but who doesn't?

Yea, they got sold off :( Getting new ones is on the horizon at some point, just not sure when yet (little things like buying a house get in the way... :p ) but we both definitely want them again. They were a blast!

umm i agree with you and all, but prokop is not going to be winning any dh races any time soon. 4X yes, he dominates, but he is really a bmxer at heart. maybe peaty would be a better example.

I thought all the armor was to impress your friends with the stench.

I wear the whole sha-bang for every shuttle run. I'm too old... heal too slowly.

Did you ever notice that if you not wearing a pad for some reason ona given day, that is exactly where you get whacked?

Most of the guys I ride with don't wear more than a helmet and gloves. You should see what their shins and knees look like. Masochists

Biggest difference I see between DH and MX bikes is the dirt bikes are
1) size/heavier....not a bad thing. The weight caries you through stuff that would stall a DH bike. I personally have issue with my DH bike stopping and myself continueing along the trail. You have better suspension, larger tires(more traction), etc.
2) More stable. Everything above helps keep that bike tracking making your job of going faster easier.

I think you can ride nastier stuff on a dirt bike that a DH bike. It is just attacked differently. Look at BMX riders, what they do is incredible. But they also desire smooth like concrete runs and landings etc. I have shut up more than one BMX rider by betting them they could match my slow azz on a DH course on their machines....or even take beat double my time. Different course for different bikes....the opposite would be true of a DH bike on a BMX course.

DH and dirt bikes are a weird comparison. THe DH crowd thinks they can't turn or enter nasties because of their size......I think they jsut haven't seen riders used to that terrain run similiar trails. Enduro and Harescramble racers are more comparable. The nastier the better.

And whoever mentioned they can ride faster than a dirt bike on a dirt bike trail....is dillusional. Flat out full of himself. Crack head material. There is no way and I am calling him out.

But what do I know. 20 years on dirt bikes, 5 on DH bikes and 9 on trail bikes.....
