Once finished will be starting:

At the rate I read there's no WAY I'll finish DwD before it's due back to the library. :monkey:
i'd re read the first four books so everything is fresh...otherwise....you're left wondering if the book had a fvcking editor.

i've had it since it came out and have only managed 250 pages....

Too much other stuff on my plate and too many other books I was already half way through. About 100 pages in.

Weirdo. Have you read Stephen King's Dark Tower series? that should keep you busy for a while.
I read these a while ago (10y?) I remember hearing they were doing a movie of it at some stage - obviously never eventuated.

Any one read Hugh Cook? W+W series? Most under-rated series ever, alongside Tad Williams' books.

Been reading lots of Aleister Crowley lately. Interesting cat.
Yeah, I've got "The Great Beast" in my collection, it's written by the executor of his estate, he had access to all of Crowleys papers.
Weird, weird guy, and man could that guy take some drugs!!!!
The "May I give you the kiss of the serpent" bit still cracks me up though!

On a related note, Ozzy's book had me laughing every 5 minutes. The part where he burns down his garage......holy ****.

I've been reading the self-bio books more than anything else lately. Don't have a clue why.

but.....

I just bought the Hitchhiker series in one huge hardback. Winter is coming, looking forward to rereading the series.

I'm waiting for the movie on NetFlix (I know, book thread).

Book of Lies is a hard read without some hand holding, but even then it can be rough.

It is funny to see all the direct quotes drawn by music acts. Ministry and Mudvayne weren't at all shy about grabbing some words.

And I've read 15 of the top 25. I think I'm beyond geeked out.
39/100, 17 out of the first 25. :nerd:tastic

I just finished book 10. I have to say I will be glad when this series is done. Its a great story, but it gets a little complicated if you go long periods between books
I'm just happy they are finally being brought to an end. I picked up the first one probably 15 years ago.

Same. It's very reminiscent of 'the Book of Eli' or The Dark Tower series.
I never watched The Book of Eli.

The writing in the Dark Tower series just doesn't compare to McCarthy's. The Road is one of just a few books I've read and then dreamt about.

Freaking awesome

and

Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality. It's a fan fic, but goddamn it's amazing. It's written by Eliezer Yudkowsky of the blog Overcoming Bias .

I know Fanfics get a bad rep, but the knowledge in this book is invaluable.

Also, it’s a hundred times better than the first Harry potter

There’s a link for a free Epub, .Mobi and PDF on the Fanfic page. It's free, check it.

Pretty intense book. really makes you feel for low wage workers.

Next book:

C. Bukowski, should be fun.

I didn't know it was a series of books. I'll need to look into that when I get back home.

Agree - as much as I enjoyed King's story, McCarthy's is (imho) a better and darker story. I've not seen the movie yet though - anyone?

Movie was damn close to the book but felt rushed. They added flashbacks with the mother (charlize theron) to the movie which felt unnecessary. I could have done without watching the movie.

I'm glad to hear someone say that. I read The Road in one of the darker times of my life, pretty heavy novel, and I can't imagine tainting it by interfering with my imagination and watching the movie-- no matter how "accurate" it is, it will never leave my own understanding of the book alone.

Recently, rereading

after finishing

(a challenging read that I keep coming back to-- even the third time around I'm not sure I got everything I could have out of it)

and

(one of the more entertaining reads I've had in a while)

So I was in the middle of
(the third book in The Hunger Game series) when my kindle broke last Thursday. I called Amazon and they were AWESOME and speedy to replace it since it was well within the warranty--so props to them. It is not connecting to the wireless however, so I haven't been able to dive back into my book yet. I called Amazon again and they are continuing to work on it, and are extremely easy to work with and kind on the phone. I wanted to share my good experience with them for y'all, and also say I can't WAIT for the darn thing to work so I can get back into my book! Has anyone else read these?? They are SO effing good!

Punched out the Ender's Game, Dune Trilogy, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and The Road while on the drive to/from CO. Read 'So long and thanks for all the fish' while camping.

I've got 'Foundation and Empire' and 'Speaker for the Dead' on que. I'm trying to make my way through Tolkien's 'The Silmarillion' (which is dense).

Any other good sci-fi under this range?

Game of Thrones is not about jockeying an open stall between you and your telescoped-trousered co-worker, if you're looking for a new 5-book fantasy epic to spend some time with.

Also, Makers by Cory Doctorow for a look at your not-too-distant dystopian future.
