how often do you guys go grocery shopping? my GF says every 3 weeks and i say once a week. honestly i think i would prefer to do smaller shopping every week than do a huge trip once a month. how do you guys do it?
Same thing. Usually get stuff every two weeks or so that will last a while. I usually only buy fruits/veggies/meat when I need it. I don't really like freezing meat. I usually just buy whatever is on sale and plan a meal around that unless I want something specific.the bulk of our stuff is purchased once a week, though there are usually a couple of small stops during the week as well.
It seems like we go 2 or 3 times a week, I'm always stopping by to bring something home.
Picking up a few perishable items every week != grocery shopping.
every three weeks seems insane. how do you keep milk, bread or fruit/veggies fresh?
you can freeze milk?so I freeze 6 gallons of milk
Prolly only skim. It has very few solids in it, so yes, it freezes perfectly. I just take out about 6 oz and freeze the whole gal. Then pull one out about a week before I need it for meh cereals and Ovaltine...you can freeze milk?
My sister used to freeze breast milk before going on road trips with her family. Obviously it worked cuz her kids are now little monsters... uh, I mean pre-teens.you can freeze milk?
No kids, fake bread, and nothing fresh... that's what I'd guess.

We don't do it much any more 'cause the kids have slacked off to less than 6 gal/week. But 2% freezes perfectly well. We freeze it now before going camping - makes for a nice ice block and is usually mostly thawed by the 2nd morning...paging SS...
good idea, gonna use that tip on the next trip! +repWe freeze it now before going camping - makes for a nice ice block and is usually mostly thawed by the 2nd morning...
Picturing you at Costco makes meWe go at least twice a week... and one of those is to Costco to purchase massive quantities of stuff.
I generally freeze a 1/2 gallon of apple juice too along with bacon, etc. that we'll be using later in the camping trip. Keeps the beer nice and cold.good idea, gonna use that tip on the next trip! +rep
jesus, how much were they drinking before??We don't do it much any more 'cause the kids have slacked off to less than 6 gal/week.
he's the one shopping in the hemp robe.Picturing you at Costco makes me
like when Crocodile Dundee went to New York City.
We were going through 6 gal/week for awhile when the liddlest guy started drinking store milk. We would keep a couple gallons frozen for "emergency" situations.jesus, how much were they drinking before??

May I ask why so much?We were going through 6 gal/week for awhile when the liddlest guy started drinking store milk. We would keep a couple gallons frozen for "emergency" situations.
Because three young kids can drink $hitloads of milk... I fear for when they're teens...May I ask why so much?
Don't tell her about the freezing trick. She'll be pissed. When I was younger, my brother and I would easily go through a gallon a day of milk. My mom would have to tell us to lay off because she hated having to go to the store every day or every other day to buy milk.
My mom would always go grocery shopping on Saturday or Sunday morning. I remember the days that literally by 3-4pm both gallons of milk would be gone, along with most of the other stuff she bought. I think she would have bought more at a time, but didn't have anywhere to put it. Gallon jugs take up a lot of room in the fridge...Don't tell her about the freezing trick. She'll be pissed.
Impressive!I kid you not... I go every 7-8 weeks. I only drink skim milk and OJ, so I freeze 6 gallons of mike and 1 gallon of OJ and put the rest in the main fridge. I bake my own bread and drink the occasional V8 juice for veggies as I hate hate hate eating the real thing. I also freeze bananas for banana bread I make frequently (you need them mushy anyway to bake). I take plenty of vitamins and am as healthy as a horse (or jackass).
I spend about $250 per trip for myself.
