CostCo rules. I bought a 32" LCD TV from them a while back, gonna take it back and trade up to the 37" version, which has had a price cut.
w00t for big-ass TVs!

On the bad side, it seems almost *too* big to play Halo on. Maybe I haven't played in a while, or I'm sitting too close.
Movies however, rule.

It must be TV day. I just got back from the store after purchasing a shiny new 42" Sharp Aquos 1080p LCD (and mega comfy sofa and chair to go with it). All of the plasmas were the same price for bigger Tvs, but i'm afraid my ridiculous amount of CNN watching and Video gaming woudl have led to burn in.

Super stoked though. Will go awesome in the new place. woo.

Im not a fan of the silver boarder. Ive looked at a few plasma TVs and I want a black boarder. They are just easier to watch in low light. A buddy of mine works in a home theater store and a lot of people complain about silver TVs. Plasma is the way to go.

Im not a fan of the LCD. The picture only looks good from straight on.

Mine is the 50PX60U....MMMMMMMMMMMM 50:twitch: :monkeydance: and scored it for $2229 with free shipping from Amazon.com. Got my home theater guy comming over next week to start setting up the system with me.
Dude!

Why pay $'s for the stock speakers on that TV? Save a few $'s and get a monitor and add your own sound system.

For less money, you could have gotten a 9th generation Panasonic TH-50PH9UK for $1995.

Plasma Concepts: http://www.plasmaconcepts.com/plasma-tv-store/Panasonic-TH-50PH9UK/PD577.html

The fine print on the accessories page it states: *2% off price of Plasma TV if payment made via bank wire or cashiers check.

*edit: I see that the plasma I mentioned doesn't come with HDMI inputs so you would have to buy a couple HDMI blades for it... at $145 ea.

Your info is out of date. We bought a 42" LCD a few months ago that has 178 degree viewing angle. And it does look just as awesome from the side... friends have commented on it.

Yep, I'm making the transition from my 36" Mitsubishi.
Congo Rats!

Now you can watch your Raiders lose even bigger :D

Yes, most of all the new LCD TV's have a 178 viewing angle now. Some of the first LCDs were a lot less. I will say that every one of my display vendors we sell, say that LCD technology has surpassed Plasmas. Plasmas are only better at this time in 80" viewing screens and up. I prefer Projection myself for 80” and up. Here is my setup. 120" Yes I am a movie freak!!!

For one the PH series is EDTV, not HDTV, and secondly I don't want to run it through the stereo system every time I watch TV, I just do that for movies & sporting events.

now that ^ is an awesome room.

If my viewing room wasn't so small, we'd do the same setup. As it is, we bought a HUGE couch and HAD to get a 6" deep TV so we could keep the table between the couch and TV :) the other TV was like 3 frigging feet deep.

why wouldn't you want the stereo audio used for TV viewing all the time?

our tube TV is almost 10 years old and i think the price of HD has fallen enough to tempt me into getting one. maybe i'll wait until after xmas; still not sure about the LCD/plasma/DLP choice, but i definitely want 1080.

Don't blame you... I have HDTV and love it.
EDTV sucks compared to HDTV. All it is is progressive scan regular Standard Def. 480p upsampling of a 480i signal. Usually ends up looking like poo.

We only get about 25 or so HD channels here right now, but i can pick up all the us networks HD broadcasts over the air anyways.

1080p is now the way to go for sure. Both new video games consoles now support it if you are into games, and hd dvd and blue ray are now shipping for most titles if you want to spent the coin. I'll probably pick up the hd dvd drive for my 360 after christmas for $199. Much cheaper than a stand alone at this point.

Nice room BTW. The room I have to work with is significantly smaller so a 42" is perfect. Projection would suck here anyways due to the house's orientation. Too much sunlight, :(. I wanted projection bad.

Oh also - saw below. consider hd dvd vs blue ray. All of the tests i have seen so far have the hd dvd versions of stuff looking much better than the blue ray versions for some reason??
