In the interest of sanity, couldn't you "get the deck you need now" and upgrade to the $46k "dream deck" as funds become available? To me (not that my opinion carries any weight whatsoever) that's just insane. I'm sure there are entire houses that could be built for that kind of cash.

It's not a dream deck. It's just replacing the fucking existing deck, which is a massive part of why we bought the house. I can probably do it for a bit cheaper if I use wood surface, but then it needs annual maintenance which adds up.
