Looks like the Irish DH champion Ben Reid blow'd up also in Quali.....i was really curious to see how he would stack up.

I was told he was seen there on a back board being taken away. Too bad, he was killing it in slalom and I bet would have done well in DH.bcd said:shawn?
where did boice crash? right bf the shack where you cross the road?
yeah, right at the bottom at of that steep/fast section as the road comes up. clay porter saw the whole thing and said it was really violent...said "if i had that on video i would have deleted it right away."bcd said:shawn?

one of the fox mechanics/managers said that boice has some bruised ribs, a broken scapula and a minor liver laceration (i'm pretty sure that's the extent, not 100% positive). he's ok, i guess, just banged up pretty good.
cole bangert also had a hand come off his bars in the exact same spot during his race run. i think some of the colorado kids saw it and said cole was super lucky as he just rolled a bit in the air and ended up sliding for 50 feet in the grass w/ just a few scrapes! cole said "man, angels were lookin' out for me. i thought 'this is it. it's over' and then i popped up and was fine." - crazy.
pros figure they were going 45mph or so at that spot.
yeah, some people get off scot free then other times come out hurt.©2001 said:yeah, right at the bottom at of that steep/fast section as the road comes up. clay porter saw the whole thing and said it was really violent...said "if i had that on video i would have deleted it right away."

Thoughts of those things are the reason I just don't have it in me to race anymore. I used to ride with a minor disregard for my personal safety, and now I'm conservative to say the least. Fast enough to have fun but nowhere near fast enough to race expert competitively.ska todd said:In my race run I was coming down that fast section right after the pipe jump and found myself on the totally wrong line. I ended up piloting it thru the race tape, into knee high greass, around some orange bamboo, then back onto the course...all the while pissing my pants that I was gonna crash and get hurt. I shut it down after that as all I could think about was "wife, kid, mortgage payment".

i am pretty sure that that section was used for the first time this year. two years ago (the last time that part of the mountain was used in a course) the track came down the ski trail to the riders right on the other side of the woods, real off camber and then flat with a sort of drop/right hander onto the road by that lift house.bizutch said:I remember that section from the first year they used it. It was actually a good place to rest after all that bare off camber rock they weaved it across and that last exit on the off camber rock into the embankment.
But god forbid you've got a loose grip on that section...
Transcend said:Flipper makes all the rest of us taking pics look like complete hacks, goddamn.
the course was actually relatively safe/sane. ripping down that hill past the lift house was a pretty straight shot, and continued before the turns to get into the small step-down. there was nothing incredibly stupid like the Yardsale, just stuff that got incrementally more dangerous the faster you go. overall one of the better/more fun courses I've ridden, but then again I wasn't going pro speeds either. ink:davetrump said:this year route had riders going way faster into the section ofter the lift house than ever before... i am all for high speed courses, but does anyone else think that from a liability standpoint mount snow is playing with fire when making a course like this?
if you crash anywhere on that course your chance of leaving on a backboard is almost guarenteed. whereas other courses, even fast ones there is a little more concern for safty taken into consideration.

nah, they used it the first time they moved away from the Waterfall drops. It was a bone dry week. I think it was 2002 as a matter of fact. Yep...I remember it was on my first DHR. That section was in it.davetrump said:i am pretty sure that that section was used for the first time this year. two years ago (the last time that part of the mountain was used in a course) the track came down the ski trail to the riders right on the other side of the woods, real off camber and then flat with a sort of drop/right hander onto the road by that lift house.
ska todd said:Butch, I think you're thinking of one ski run over to rider's right. It's similar but not nearly as steep and straight as this shot. I don't remember riding this section in any of my previous 9 Mt Snow's.

That is one of his...once again...Braaaaaaaap!
My gosh You whine a lot, first You boycott the race because of the yardsale, then it is taken out, so now the excuse is because of high speed ??davetrump said:i am pretty sure that that section was used for the first time this year. two years ago (the last time that part of the mountain was used in a course) the track came down the ski trail to the riders right on the other side of the woods, real off camber and then flat with a sort of drop/right hander onto the road by that lift house.
tis year it came directly under the lift, straight at the road and full speed into the next section of small drops before the two bigger rock drops.

it is one thing to have the high spped sections in the middle of a ski trail, but three feet from the woods is asking for somone to get seriously hurt... if it was a ski race (or a world cup, where there are actual saftey standards) there would probably have been some sort of chicane to control speed or some saftey netting to keep you out of the woods if something were to get out of hand.
the course looked bad ass, and was definetly an improvement over the same clapped out versions they had been running in previous yeras.
wow, another post by know it all viciousdher that contibutes nothing to a thread, and trys to stir things up.... why am i not suprisedViciousDHer said:My gosh You whine a lot, first You boycott the race because of the yardsale, then it is taken out, so now the excuse is because of high speed ??
Oh yea that and the fact You bash others for commenting on sections that they haven't raced.
Whatever

How is Seth by the way? I was standing up above that section and it didn't look good. I couldn't believe they didn't have one of the medical staff in that section for the semi-pro race but there was one there during expert. The marshall didn't seem to give a damn either but the people standing near by were quick to help him out.ska todd said:think this is a shot of Dusty geting hurt...

I just got back from his house. He is going to see another specialist next Monday to see if he needs surgery. Too much inflamation, etc right now to tell if he needs his Quad surgically repaired. He was limping around however without crutches.Transcend said:Lolli thinks he may need surgery for a ruptured hamstring or something??
