My dad was in the 2nd wave (I was kinda a later life "oops"). Got to shimmy via a wire from his sinking boat (Susan B. Anthony) to another before landing.
Was all over those beaches last week. It is hard to believe that such beautiful stretches of sand were once the sight of such horrific carnage. My Dad and his brother both survived the landings and then some to return to their lives and make good. We should be truly thankful that a generation was willing to step forward for us...the question that remains is are we worthy of their sacrifices?
