whats up with the FS proto?
will that thing be available?

anyone got pics of that thing?ChrisRobin said:We have to keep it to 'rare but current' bikes. Anything that's not made anymore doesn't count...like that all-cnc Nolan DH bike.
because it IS a nouveau riche. They purchased the rights from balfa. Devince also had their very own jackshaft bike the entire team was using in 1998-1999. It sucked as well.ChrisRobin said:Wow! That Devinci thing looks pretty slick. Reminds me the that Balfa Nouveau Riche:

when you say "rights", do you mean to directly take a Balfa frame and re-badge it? cus i'm not aware of any proprietary technology there.Transcend said:because it IS a nouveau riche. Not really.zedro said:when you say "rights", do you mean to directly take a Balfa frame and re-badge it? cus i'm not aware of any proprietary technology there.
atrokz said:maybe out of respect? instead of stealing the design like we see so many others do.
why does that feel backwards to me?Transcend said:If I recall, devinci bought the design off of balfa to produce on their own, in aluminum.

Sweeet. Looks alot like a steel DHR... nice work man.Spitfired said:I hate to bringing back dying posts, but heres a half decent picture of the bike I just found (forgot about it) since some of you seemed mildly interested.
welding seems a bit rough, but i dig the layout.Spitfired said:I hate to bringing back dying posts, but heres a half decent picture of the bike I just found (forgot about it) since some of you seemed mildly interested.
i agree - one of my favorites: (but not *that* rare i guess - i think total production is up to about 65 now:ChrisRobin said:I like small, compact looking frames that have a lot of travel.
Hmm, kinda looks like it's snapped and someone welded it back together again.Spitfired said:I hate to bringing back dying posts, but heres a half decent picture of the bike I just found (forgot about it) since some of you seemed mildly interested.
Just James has one.ChrisRobin said:Ok, who's got the pic of the prototype Giant ATX Team DH frame with the funny shock linkage?? It's the model in between the older Giant ATX and the newer Giant DH Team.
Yeah, funny, I just pulled it out the other day, and I'm gonna start building it back up again! I'll take a pic tomorrow, and post it up. It was designed in 2000-2001, just before the current DH design. There was a discussion about which frame to go with, and the current design happened to win out. I know the engineer who designed it, and I guess there were some folks at the head office who still prefered the other design. Still, it's cool, there are only about 3 of those frames left, 1 in Taiwan in the Giant museum, the engineer has one, and I do too. Just need a new rear shock for it, and it's good to go. I'll post a pic tomorrow...ChrisRobin said:Ok, who's got the pic of the prototype Giant ATX Team DH frame with the funny shock linkage?? I remember you posting a pic of it a couple years back. Do you know why they opted for the current one versus that prototype?? If I remember correctly, it was a cool design but the shock was sitting up high in the frame right?Just James said:Yeah, funny, I just pulled it out the other day, and I'm gonna start building it back up again! Forgot the frame @ the shop, tomorrow.ChrisRobin said:I remember you posting a pic of it a couple years back. Do you know why they opted for the current one versus that prototype?? If I remember correctly, it was a cool design but the shock was sitting up high in the frame right?
Duuuuuude! I had totally forgotten about that bike! Dayyymmn! That thing was hot ish back in the day!oddblob said:Just trying to make the actual pic appear.
Ahhhh there it is. That's what I figured since the shock is sitting up high. The concept is really cool it would be fun to try. I remember my good 'ol 2000 ATX would feel like it was locking up while braking and going down rocks and fast stutter bumps. Otherwise it was strong and pretty stiff. I see pics of people riding ATXs repainted with higher end shocks and I get all jealous.Just James said:Forgot the frame @ the shop, tomorrow.
I think it was partly a COG thing, the current design is pretty damn low, that and the whole "floating pivot" thing, I'm not sure if in infringed on anything or not. Cool riding bike though, I dug it a lot.
Oh, wait, here's a pic, older pic, but same frame, duh.
I only got a couple of runs in on it at the race I did, the rear brake had some issues, but it really floated over square-edged bumps and such...
I think I'm gonna build it back up, as I don't have a DH bike right now, just need to get my BoXXer fixed...

Ugh, that bike. It was basically a "trail" version of the NRS, didn't really really cut the mustard though. I think Mylo rocked it for a little while in the DS. I'd give it a couple of solid runs before you fold it...Dirt rider said:I have this Giant XCX frame I only remember it being for sale for one year (2000) with two models the DS/1 (shown) and DS/2 they whre marketed as freeride bikes but where more suited to XC due to the parts spec ( Sid shock, NRS linkage, "superlight" tubing) I did however se a video of the giant team racing dual solom on the XCX frame,so thats how I built up this bike, the thin tubes make me nervous whn jumping but they hold strong but just the same I was carful not to bash it around too much, and using a coil(with sag) defeats the NRS system.
