I wonder if we'll see a one piece aluminium steerer and crown in the near future.

7" is plenty for any type of DH I think. I'd like to see a new light but strong,purpose made 7" fork,not an 8" wound down.

Cool idea since you could manipulate the wall stock of the steerer to overcome the stress.

I think you would have to investment cast a rough shape and machine it or possibly a forging. I have seen some complex forgings before and that would be one. I don't know if you would get the strength that you would want with the investment cast, but you are able to manipulate the grain structure.

Or, you could machine it out of billet. Probably too expensive but it would work.

The plug option done now is an effective method of doing the same thing for less money.
