New shots of Mason at his first day at the local Skate Park. Over all he did very well. The other Groms there were tripping on him and thought it was so cool to see him there at his age. The highest box he road down was the 4 foot boxes. I got him in the Bowl and he started to pump around in it really good until he fell over after about 2 mins of riding in it. He was done by that time. We plan to start going there throughout the winter on Wed nights.

Yah, you and Dave both. It's still hard to believe he is riding already even when you see it with you're 2 own eyes. I am so proud!! Will be adding the brakes on soon. Just need to find small brake leavers.

Brakes were one of my big problems too. Trevor was racing bmx on a modified micro mini Free Agent at 2yrs 7mos. AND he was small for his age. Track moms just loved him. But brakes were definetly a problem. I ended up with a Shimano lever the perfect length for all 4 fingers to grab. No matter HOW slick the cable, and loose the arm springs, they just can't get enough power to the pads without all 4 fingers. I modified the reach so it was only about 1.5"'s out. And I kept his canti brakes UBER close to the rim. I had to true the 18" sewups almost daily. I also cut and redrilled a set of solid aluminum cranks to 133mm. And that was still too big for his legs. But any smaller and he wouldn't get the speed for the gargantuan(in his eyes) mountains on a bmx track.

i think i'm gonna rebuild this old spot.... if you recognize it and you're still local come give me a hand sometime. i'm going to make them big enough to throw down on but not so nasty that intermediate riders can't handle 'em. more of a fun set than a "oh my god those are big jumps" ;)

back in 2003

i think i'm going to avoid using complete trees as foundation ;)

i can't get over how small my 9yr old is...he's been hucking for 5 years now and is STILL too small for a 24" rig. i can't wait to get him on a FS bike...what frame is your boy riding?
