Any monkeys seen Walter Mitty? As much as I dislike serious roles from Stiller I liked that movie a lot. It may not be a well crafted story from a technical standpoint but I think most of the people on RM could relate to the obvious message of that movie.
i might if it's still around...

i have the book somewhere....should probably read it...
Probably should. The first half is fantastic, the second half still good.

Also, Gone Girl was fairly entertaining and a pretty good litmus test for girlfriends. If she laughs her ass off for the last half hour she is probably a keeper. Or a complete psycho.

Shut up and take my money!

Automata is on Netflix instant right now.
Did you read the book? New school Ridley Scott Sci Fi and the Matt Damon stranded alone on a planet scenario don't exactly fill me with confidence due to recent movie experiences...

Ridley has been off form recently.

Out of the digestable but inteligent movies to be released I'd recommend Sicario and Youth. Saw both in Cannes and they are amazing. Youth even has a trailer.

Also this:

I also saw Jurrasic World and it's complete shit. Hollywood needs to stop sucking the nostalgia cock because it leaves no room for good plot. The whole movie feels like what would happen if Bret Ratner and Michael Bay got nostalgic for dinosaurs.

I liked Prometheus, I don't care what anyone says. :P

There is an amazing documentary called "Man on Wire" about Philippe Petit. I highly recommend it if you've not seen it.

After the well directed screenplay disaster that was prometeus he made The Councelor that gave us the Cameron Diaz snail trail and then did that white people playing ancient egyptians christian movie.

Yeah but the movie is really good. Though as always pompous idiots in Cannes only want social issues movies so some booed (still the rotten tomatoe average is super high)

I know nothing about this movie, but I want to go see it now.
It's the best thriller I've seen in years. Comparisons to old school Michael Mann or Nolan are not unwarranted. Some people thought it was simpistic since it's very nichilistic but from a pure technical genre movie standpoint it's a masterpiece. The movie is tense from the first second to the last. I watch a ton of movies for a living and I can't remember a movie that kept me tense 100% of the time. GO WATCH IT.

Also the same guy and the same camera operator will do Blade Runner 2. So Blade Runner 2 will be a good movie. I have no doubt. I've seen his last 3 movies and all of them have been very good. Previous once supposedly are also great.

norbar....have you seen this....

It's in Cinemas in Poland already (from this weekend I think). I've read the script. It's quite good but nothing super original. If you like 70's style crime movies you will like it but it's not a movie you will never forget.

tell me more
I'm a programming executive among a myriad of my other positions in a big Easter European movie distribution company, we buy a ton of US, UK, FR and even Malysian films plus produce some on our own. It's probably the biggest company in the region if you don't include companies that also buy films for the Russian Market. So I read scripts for movies to buy and then watch a ton of movies to either buy or set dates, budget goals, set up marketing strategy and trailering strategy.

Saw Jurasic Park in 3d, and the best part was the trailer for Walk, that movie looked amazing in 3D. JP kind of sucked in 3D, seemed like Dinos were maybe 2.5D at best, and then shit got intense with people all up in your face during the talking scenes.

My theory with the lack of plot is that they got through with the edit, and it was 4 hours long, so they cut 95% of dinosaur-less scenes, and you ended up with "bye kids" "RAWWWWWWWWWR" "chomp chomp" "RAWWWWWWWWWR" "HI kids", then end. If you really paid attention, there was a thread of a plot all the way through, but it took my 2 beers after the movie and a couple tacos before I connected all the dots.

Naah. Jurrasic world was like it was meant to be. You can see Spielberg getting old (Indiana Jones anyone? ).

At first you are treated with nostalgia porn with no action then there is some action but it's plot driven and things happen without logic only to push the plot forward (raptors being good and bad at the screenwriters will, t-rex being suddenly good).

Also the movie rips off indiana jones with Pratts character as well as the main female character who is as much a chauvinistic stereotype as it was in the old Indiana Jones movie. The only thing is the world has moved forward.

Usually my eyes on 3d movies hurt because of bad stereoscopy but now it was just from rolling them every damn second. It's a deliberately fan serving movie. It's just a very bad kind of fan serving. Giving viewers exactly what they like and want never works as a movie. Artistically that is. Commercially the movie is great. Though i wonder how much potential it leaves for a sequel.

Last 3 I've seen with wifey......

Blindsided with Michael Keaton-- trailer looked good, yet the whole movie?? A waste worse than Birdman.

Inside Out-- wife won tickets to see it, we did, and it brought a few tears to the eyes (you know why).

50 Shades of Grey-- read book, wanted to compare to movie, good thing it was in Redbox, as even at $1.61, it was too much to pay.

Didn't see this on the Cannes lineup, but looking for norbar's critical review.

Seems legit. :thumb:

I've read a script where a german ww2 king tiger tank is forced to fight a jewish golem so yeah those happen.

But if you want a similar movie with better production value try

or

or if you are feeling really silly ( I really RECOMMEND IT)

Jesus why the hell would you read a book which was basicly a printed aussie blog which the author partly wrote on her blackberry. I really canth fathom why do people read it. There is a ton of trashy novels on airport that are also less pro sexual harrasment or even slightly rapey like this thing and most importantly written a bit better (still bad but better). Then as my suicide girl friend suggests there are actually good books in the "genre". Not that i checked.

In hell. Welcome!
I finally watched the famed Interstellar movie on a DVD, as you see I have quite a backlog to process.

I was kinda hoping to get a less-than-standard dose of Hollywood cliches and odd story devices, unfortunately that did not happen. What a load of sappy crap and totally murdered with a terrible Deus ex machina. A smart movie wannabe of the worst kind.

To be honest I really like the physics part given Kip Thorne was a consultant. If they cut out the family drama it would be good but it was still enjoyable. You just have to ignore the sappy crap.
