The FOX RACING SHOX Gravity Open Pro Grt at Plattekill

FOX RACING SHOX has secured the title sponsorship for the third stop of the Pro Gravity Tour that takes place this May 19-23. ProGRT is the most prestigious downhill mountain bike racing series in North America. This will mark the second consecutive year the ProGrt has chosen Plattekill as an East Coast stop for the series. This high profile event is also UCI inscribed for World Cup points. Top domestic and international professional riders will be competing at Plattekill to test their skills on one of the toughest downhill mountain bike courses the United States has to offer. The Pro Gravity Tour is the official USA Cycling National Series for downhill racing.

FOX RACING SHOX Marketing Manager Jim Noonan, “Plattekill really separates the men from the boys, FOX is proud to be the title sponsor of this event. Plattekill Mountain is renowned as some of the most technically demanding DH terrain on the east coast. There is a long-standing tradition of FOX endorsing Plattekill Bike Park. Hopefully there is also a tradition of our FOX sponsored athletes winning events that FOX chooses to title sponsor. Last year Jared Graves wrapped up the UCI World Cup overall 4 Cross title by winning a FOX title sponsored event, the Windham UCI World Cup.”

The FOX RACING SHOX Gravity Open will feature overall UCI downhill points, and also be used as a Pro and Junior World team qualifier. Elite level professional riders will compete for a cash purse and amateurs will be rewarded with high end prizes from participating race event sponsors.

Since 1974, FOX RACING SHOX has been the industry leader in the design and development of the highest performance shock absorbers and racing suspension products for snowmobiles, mountain bikes, motorcycles, ATVs and off-road cars and trucks.

Plattekill Bike Park is located in Roxbury, NY. The park has been hosting downhill mountain bike racing for over fifteen years now, since 1993. The trails are endless and offer something for riders of all abilities. The fall line trail sections are quite steep and the natural terrain offers loose shale with large rock drops. Plattekill Bike Park uses two lifts accessing two distinct peak areas. Lift attendants place your bikes on the chair for the ride up. The base lodge offers a cafeteria, bike shop and restrooms. will there be separate pro / cat 1 practice on saturday like last year?
Nope, not this year. Practice times are open for all except for the mandatory UCI one hour for pro/elite Sunday morning.

More practice for all classes.

Seeding runs at 4pm on Saturday to give everyone a chance to see the top pros ripping up the Platty course.

Really? I thought that having split practices was a great idea. Helped prevent traffic jams between the two classes (especially given some of the pro teams in attendance), and may have helped minimize wear & tear to the course by limiting how much time each class could be on it.

hmmm maybe they'll help out my dying DHX....

question though...the GRT course is on the triple chair side, right? if you're only running the lift for an hour, do you expect everybody to get on the lift at that time, then wait for their runs?

foo, week ahead weather is always way off, and the mountains often defy area predictions.

Tacky and tight, no doubt. Negativity is for the pessimist, it will be AWESOME.

If it rains all week it shouldn't keep raining into the weekend. The same weather pattern happened for their opening day, rained all week prior then it was nice for the weekend, by then the place was drained. There was a huge amount of shale on the trails from the winter too. The course looks sick.

The big rigs are pulling in. Lifts open Thursday at noon. Shimano and FOX RACING SHOX Tech support will be on site. Trek, Specialized, Intense Teams and more on the way the way.

Pro/Cat1 course flows even better and faster with the improvments made. I really didn't think that was possible.

Cat2-3 Course is mint, fun, long and pretty challenging with open practice times.

Weather is looking really good for the weekend (whew). The course in mostly quick drying shale and the side of the mountain with the courses gets the sun. Yes I said sun.

wat? thunderstorms is good weather? a little rain ain't so bad, but lightning might close the lift. plattekill dries so well that anything aside from a downpour isn't worth changing your tires for...

when will fox be there? i want some shock lovin...

edit: oh yeah, what's the sport course look like?
