A Kia? has he seen the newer PDP kits in person? I'd say it's more like a Santa Cruz frame as opposed to a hand-built Bontrager.
This is not a low-end kit, but it is a production kit. The quality and fit/finish of this kit is light years beyond even the best kits you could get 10-15 years ago.
The DW kit comes later. I already have it spec'd out. My wife will have me killed though.
I just built my own custom kit last year, then they sent me this one after I signed the artist agreement. I packed up my ancient Tama kit and put it in storage. I may just have too many drums.
hock:
Clean. Sharp but not too sharp, the inside cut is about 5-6 plies and the outside cut is very thin, only a couple plies.
Almost no noticeable voids or gaps - in fact only one gap I could find on the rack tom was on the bottom edge and it was about 1mm on an inner ply.
The kick edges are a bit rounder. The kick has an amazing attack for a 24" drum. Nice mid range thump to the chest with all the low end you'd also expect.
