I think to see religious persecution try standing for (any) US election as an openly atheist candidate......
Then you will see who is really oppressed.
Then you will see who is really oppressed.
You don't have to believe that Jesus was a holy being to realize that one of the greatest things that he did do, was to promote tolerance and forgiveness. So if you are completely against the idea of a god or holy being, you would have to at least admit that Jesus and MLK were successful teachers of tolerance.because it was stupid and had no bearing what-so-ever.
May I point out that as a Jew the Spanish committed genocide against my people in the name of Jesus, it's really just one example of many where "Christians" use Jesus to control and or murder mass amounts of people. You don't have to believe that Jesus was a holy being to realize that one of the greatest things that he did do, was to promote tolerance and forgiveness. You may say that the extreme religious people aren't that tolerant, but if you look at the society as a whole, we aren't all running around sacrificing our animals and beheading our daughters because they had sex before marriage.
Christmas is every bit as deserving of being a named holiday as MLK day.
like dick cheney?I would like to oppress Rick Perry.
In the face.
With a shotgun.
Its not your holiday to begin with.Christmas is every bit as deserving of being a named holiday as MLK day.
'Happy Holidays' nonsense - let's call it what it is and say, 'Happy Yule!' Because, after all, MY holiday is the ONLY one that matters! Everyone else can go fvck themselves."
uhh... let me just start off by saying that I haven't been to church in the last 7 years, mostly because I find that many of the people that do are among the most intolerant and unreasonable people that I have ever met.May I point out that as a Jew the Spanish committed genocide against my people in the name of Jesus, it's really just one example of many where "Christians" use Jesus to control and or murder mass amounts of people.
Ummm, this add shows intolerance for 10% of our population, and perry signed the stupid document saying he would investigate the LGBT community. You do realize if the bible is the "word of god" like people say and should be followed word for word, then we would in fact be killing our disobedient wives and beating our kids. If you really want to follow it to the T, if your daughter get's raped, she get's nothing as she is a whore. You get money from the man because your daughter is now worthless to marry off.
May I also point out that according to the old testament (you know the thing with all the messianic qualifications and predictions) says the messiah will you know, make this whole G-d's kingdom on earth happen. Well news flash, it didn't go down like that, and the Christians use the lame ass excuse "well they killed him before he could do that" News flash, you're claiming the bible is the word of G-d. So how are you going to just ignore one of the hugest aspects the messianic you stole half your scriptures from????
If you really want to get down to it, look at all the blood that has been spilt in the name of jesus. I would be willing to bet you could fill a pretty good size poor or million. That sounds more like what the new testament describes as the anti Christ.
Did I mention the world is still ****ty 2000 years after this so called messiah????
I'm truly beginning to believe more Christians in this country are retarded sheep who continue to vote republican time after time. When if you really think about it, So homosexuality is a sin according the to the bible yes, but the bible says it's not up to us to judge and that is G-d's job, so really according to the bible it's not up to us to ban gay anything, G-d will judge them later (remember as well G-d is all forgiving) Instead of being bad Christians the religious right could instead actually do something the bible and jesus say are GOOD deeds, that being supporting things last universal health-care, after all the bible clearly states that the greatest good dead you can do is to save a life, there is a Jew teaching that reads "to save a life is to save the world"
In conclusions, Christians for the most part haven't a damn clue about Christianity and are in fact terrible christians who just seem to be really good at spouting some one else's interpretation.
On the Christmas tree thing, go for it, they smell nice, look good, and are pagan. That being said, I don't want to see a depiction of the berth of your lord in front of city hall.
Like I said, I'm down with christmas trees, and even the user of "merry christmas" I just think most christians have their heads up their rear ends and aren't actually christian.uhh... let me just start off by saying that I haven't been to church in the last 7 years, mostly because I find that many of the people that do are among the most intolerant and unreasonable people that I have ever met.
I'm just saying that jesus and mlk both taught 'civil rights'. I'm not saying that everyone who ever followed either of their ideaologies did so correctly or with good intentions.
I'm also saying that Christmas is a part of American culture (something that this country could use more of), so if we feel it necessary to strip the name of Christmas trees to just call it a holiday tree, then we might as well call MLK day-day off from work holiday, Thanksgiving-food holiday, 4th of july-firework holiday.
Mostly, I just don't see why anyone is so bothered by calling it a Christmas Tree? When I was living in Turkey, I celebrated Turkish/Islamic holidays. When I was in Germany I celebrated German/Christian holidays. If others here want to start celebrating ramadan, hannukah, anything else... go for it. Cinco de Mayo has caught on here. There's room for the others too.
I say, so what? Holidays are fun and I enjoy all of their unique cultural aspects.
did you part her thighs?I dont follow politics (at all) but I was on the alana burke show the other day and during the interview there were several callers who chimed in and said I should run for the republican nomination.
there must be some sorry peeps in this election
That's definitely true.I just think most christians have their heads up their rear ends and aren't actually christian.
I love it. It's a chance to get friends and families together. I like Christmas music and movies. I like the little lies that children believe about Santa Claus and flying reindeer (i liked it as a little kid and I would get really happy and excited thinking about Santa flying through the sky delivering presents, and I like seeing the joy that this brings to little kids now because it reminds me of the way that I felt). I like Christmas trees, decorations, and seeing the excitement in someone else when you actually get them a great present.Really? I'm starting to despise christmas (just christmas) as the perfect real world example of the proliferation of the disgusting abortion to religion that is the pro-capitalist, anti gay, christian right. They take the birth of there lord and turn it into one of the hugest economic entities ever. I bet jesus would be STOKED
We do the same, see Thanksgiving. Yule is neither American or Christian. Its adaptation for proselytization (and commercialism in modern times) won't change its origin or the founding principles of America.Mostly, I just don't see why anyone is so bothered by calling it a Christmas Tree? When I was living in Turkey, I celebrated Turkish/Islamic holidays. When I was in Germany I celebrated German/Christian holidays.
How have you missed out on the reality that people in America celebrate Christmas? Just because something isn't founded here, doesn't mean we can't celebrate it.We do the same, see Thanksgiving. Yule is neither American or Christian. Its adaptation for proselytization (and commercialism in modern times) won't change its origin or the founding principles of America.
These are really simple facts. What you like has nothing to do with reality.
It makes me American. You are free to leave if you don't like the foundation this country was built on.Your viewpoint on Christmas makes you no better than the anti-gay bigots.
If someone wants to celebrate Christmas, okay. If someone wants to be gay, okay. If they want to put a Christmas tree or a rainbow flag in a state building, okay.
Good ****ing grief. Let people live their lives and stop trying to control everything that they believe and do.
No it does not. You are not being oppressed from your own religious or non-religious beliefs because of a 'Christmas Tree'. Rather, you are being very un-American by trying to say that a different group is not allowed to express their beliefs and traditions. It makes me American. You are free to leave if you don't like the foundation this country was built on.
I'll cast a vote for Ron Paul with my absentee ballot. Here are more history lessons for you:
Oh good grief. A Christmas Tree isn't going to change anyones religious belief... It may be adopted by Christians, but it isn't all that religious of a holiday. The roots of it aren't celebrating anything 'godly'.Our forefathers mandated the strict separation of church and state. So again you are either really stupid or un-American. You belong in Germany, that's were Yule originated.
I could eat a bowl of alphabet soup and sh!t a better argument than thatOh good grief. A Christmas Tree isn't going to change anyones religious belief... It may be adopted by Christians, but it isn't all that religious of a holiday. The roots of it aren't celebrating anything 'godly'.
Haha, I like that.I could eat a bowl of alphabet soup and sh!t a better argument than that
Yes, true enough on that count. But it also seems fairly clear that you have very little idea of what you are talking about with some of this (like what the Christian tradition has claimed, what its ideas are, how the history of religions and history in general works...)In conclusions, Christians for the most part haven't a damn clue about Christianity and are in fact terrible christians who just seem to be really good at spouting some one else's interpretation.
Among others, Hitler had pretty much all the German Christians convinced they (the Jews) killed Jesus, and thus they needed to be taken care of. Ill be the first to admit we Christians have a Sload of skeletons in our closet ..May I point out that as a Jew the Spanish committed genocide against my people in the name of Jesus, it's really just one example of many where "Christians" use Jesus to control and or murder mass amounts of people.
Or eating shrimp, or if you want to dive into the New Testament, greeting your brothers with a holy kiss .eeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwUmmm, this add shows intolerance for 10% of our population, and perry signed the stupid document saying he would investigate the LGBT community. Well that depends on your interpretations. I know some Jews who believe that by their actions they bring the Kingdom of G-d to earth, that was a pretty well understood concept in 1st century Judaism, at least in the Pharisaic sect from which Jesus the Rabbi came from. So one could argue that the concept was to get a new heaven and a new earth to arrive by our actions in making this place heaven on earth (you know Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven), and thus the whole go make more talmidim (disciples) is how Jesus intended for that to occur. Those talmidim make talmidim and teach to bring heaven to earth by their actions, and they tell two friends, and they tell two friendsMay I also point out that according to the old testament (you know the thing with all the messianic qualifications and predictions) says the messiah will you know, make this whole G-d's kingdom on earth happen. Sadly youre right. When people find out Im a Christian and teach Sunday School, invariably I get the well I dont believe in God spiel. I then go on to ask them what God they dont believe in, which they say something along the lines of you know a God that hates gays, and wants to make me extra crispy ..to which I respond ..I dont believe in that God either .and neither does Jesus. If you really want to get down to it, look at all the blood that has been spilt in the name of jesus. I would be willing to bet you could fill a pretty good size poor or million. That sounds more like what the new testament describes as the anti Christ.
Yep, and thats why I rant about how Fd up American Christians are ..we have the $$ to make the world a better place .and yet we spend it on .what like 35 Billion on ice cream last year, while thousands upon thousand of kids died in Africa last year from hunger, a preventable cause that WE could have prevented.Did I mention the world is still ****ty 2000 years after this so called messiah????
I would agree ..I'm truly beginning to believe more Christians in this country are retarded sheep who continue to vote republican time after time.
Yeah doing the mitzvoth, our deeds do more than a bunch of rhetoric bashing gays, or taxes or the evils of socialism. When if you really think about it, So homosexuality is a sin according the to the bible yes, but the bible says it's not up to us to judge and that is G-d's job, so really according to the bible it's not up to us to ban gay anything, G-d will judge them later (remember as well G-d is all forgiving) Instead of being bad Christians the religious right could instead actually do something the bible and jesus say are GOOD deeds, that being supporting things last universal health-care, after all the bible clearly states that the greatest good dead you can do is to save a life, there is a Jew teaching that reads "to save a life is to save the world"
Agreed, interestingly enough Paul says to test everything, hold on to the good, he didnt say uncritically consume everything __________ says.In conclusions, Christians for the most part haven't a damn clue about Christianity and are in fact terrible christians who just seem to be really good at spouting some one else's interpretation.
Hey now, we have enough idiots over here...we dont need another. Just keep him there...Our forefathers mandated the strict separation of church and state. So again you are either really stupid or un-American. You belong in Germany, that's were Yule originated.
If the state isn't spending tax payer money on it, then I don't see why it really bothers anyone. I would never support the government spending tax payer money to buy a christmas tree or promote any religion. If not being able to put a manger and nativity scene on your state courthouse lawn and the idea that other people might not like the same thing as you makes you angry then i just don't give a **** about your opinion (not you in particular)
Spin it however you want, but you're as close-minded as the ultra-conservatives that have their panties in a bunch over a mosque in NYC.Because government building aren't the place for that. If a home or store owner wants to wizard his **** up by all means. I think simply saying "it's christmas" is a cop-out. There are millions of americans that don't support tribal superstitions and don't feel compelled to spread their gospel on every square inch of public land.
Fact is, white, american christians are having to deal with the idea that this isn't their land and they can't do whatever they want and just say deal with it. If the same white, christian americans didn't loose their minds about a mosque in nyc, it wouldn't seem so utterly stupid to hear them bitching about some wording.
As for the occupy stuff. One group is protesting often illegal business practices and growing financial inequality, this other group is pissed their imaginary relationship to a wizard in the sky is somehow being infringed upon by peoples acceptance that not everyone shares the share views about the holidays.
Who do you think pays for the Christmas trees/decorations festooning every state capital every year, along with the White House? Sometimes the tree itself is donated, but who do you think installs it, decorates it, sends out invites for the lighting ceremony, *holds* the lighting ceremony, etc? Here's a hint: YOUR tax dollars. If the state isn't spending tax payer money on it, then I don't see why it really bothers anyone. I would never support the government spending tax payer money to buy a christmas tree or promote any religion.
only in limiting their ability to express their beliefs.my belief doesn't infringe upon anyone else from pursuing the same quality of life I have.
I don't support that and certainly wish they would not spend tax dollars for religious purposes, or any other special interest group, but that has no bearing on allowing a group to express themselves on public property should they pay for it.Who do you think pays for the Christmas trees/decorations festooning every state capital every year, along with the White House? on public land, yes. Like I said on your own property do/say what you want.only in limiting their ability to express their beliefs.
So if I wanted to pay for a 50' billboard inside the Capital building showing two naked guys kissing in a loving embrace, you'd be ok with that? You know, my money, my expressing myself on public property? Or how about a 50' billboard memorializing the 19 hijackers from 9/11? There are lots of idiots with money in this country, but that still doesn't mean that we should be subsidizing their idiocy... (and no, none of the groups in question pay for the space that they're using)I don't support that and certainly wish they would not spend tax dollars for religious purposes, or any other special interest group, but that has no bearing on allowing a group to express themselves on public property should they pay for it.
You've seen the Banana Republic ads haven't you?So if I wanted to pay for a 50' billboard inside the Capital building showing two naked guys kissing in a loving embrace, you'd be ok with that?
