hey im not saying that i would not want to meet and ride with you im sure you are a cool cat as ami and many people can attest to that. but no one has yet to answer the question of why i should help somone when they would not first help themselves by wearing a helmet? now in reality if i came upon a rider who bashed his dome on the ground and needed help of course i would help. im not a cold hearted asshole.im just trying to get the point across. thats all

uhh, what everybody else said and stuff...

I wear my helmet, so am I cool or not??? I'll go ask some 12 year old kids since their opinion is soo important to me. On the other hand my opinion of them isn't too important to them either so nobody really wins.

Think of this if you are going down the street and your not wearing you helmet and then you get to the park or dirt jump park and you mess up, but you usely dont mess up but the true is that ever one takes a spill ever now and then even pros. And you die becaue you land on your head can crack your skull open.

I say no More.

I have a real problem with this thread.. just look at the "poll options"..
This has been biased to paint BMXers in a negative light from the get go.
Look.. I am a BMXer.. I have ridden at a very high level in that.. I am also a MTBer..
I almost exclusively ride big bikes nowadays.

When I rode alot.. (the bmx), I almost NEVER wore a helmet unless I was doing a demonstration at a venue or a competition where it was required.
Why..
Well I can assure you that it was NOT one of the "poll" reasons you provided.
I had fallen.. many many times riding my bike.. I was a vert ramp specialist.. so I spent most of my time well above a twelve foot high ramp.
I did not wear a helmet because it obscured alot of my senses.. and that effected my riding.. that in fact at times made me feel unsafe on my bike.
Yes.. I have suffered a large number of concussions..
I actually had my twelfth this weekend.. ON MY MTB WEARING A FULL FACE D.O.T. APPROVED LID.
Helmets for bicycles in general do very little to provide protection.. the DOT ones are better than most, but there is a definite lacking of crash standards for these peices of supposed safety equipement.
I do now wear a helmet.. yes, but not all the time.
I can and feel perfectly safe riding below my limit in skateparks and smooth surfaces without a helmet... I still feel safer.
I am more aware of the exposure my head has when I an not wearing a helmet, and as such take greater precautions in a fall to ensure that I direct my fall in such a way as to prevent a headstrike.
When I wear my helmet.. as with my armour.. I take much larger chances with my health..
This I have found to be true for me.

The real issue of this thread is not "why do BMXers ride without helmets".. the issue as you presented it was "Why are MTBers superior and more intelligent than BMXers."
This is offensive in nature.

If you want to be a proponent of helmet usage great.. but do it in a way that is not defametory or derogatory to other groups..

point taken and i also appreciate the way you expressed your thoughts in a collected and mature way.and yes i am serious when i say that. i was not trying to come off in a demeaning manner just when i made the post i was hot about it i see many mtb riders do it as well.

Ya biggins.. I did not think you were a loose cannon with stereotypes... which is why I did not let myself get inflamed by the post.

I understand how it is to have some guy who you acknowledge not do the same courtesy back.. it is plain rude.
Which is why I do now.. and always have taken the time to be courteous to people.. no matter whether they are skating, biking, or whatever.

I have ridden BMX since 4th grade and went kind of in and out of wearing helmets depending on what my friends were doing. The point is that I wear helmets all the time now since I fell and now have 6 plates in my face. Why others don't wear them is beyond me, I guess it takes something big to happen for people to realize how important they are. As for saying "hi" to people on the road, I don't think it had anything to do with the fact that they were BMXers, I think they were probably just douches. Realistically none of you care about this, I just thought I would throw it out there.

helmets and pads and all the protective fun stuff are for people who *intend* to fall, get hurt or pretty much anticipate using protective gear...yes it will help you for that opps...
but what it all comes down to...is im not going to do something that i dont think is beyond my ability. if i think im gonna crash..i wont do it....and yah yah....so ive had my share of cuts, bruises and fun pain.....but its the thrill what makes it fun:monkey:

While I agree with some of your post it is proven that it becomes easier to get a concusion with each one. If your up to twelve  I worry.
I'm glad to know you were wearing a helmet when you crashed and it may have saved your life. That's why after fottball players get around 12, doctors recomend they stop playing because of the risk of permanent damage. I'm only saying all this since I have a friend in the same boat and I won't let him ride without one(i don't need a vegi friend).

Another sign if intelligence is using proper punctuation, something not everyone in this thread seems to be capable of.

kuz noone cares. I rode street bmx for 8 years with no helmet. Never once ate it on my face or head. I was lucky. Its bmx mentality. We dont care and never will. Its not proper like mtb. We could care less about people ?ing it. Why do people smoke if you get cancer. Why do people drink and drive, why do people run red lights, why do people ask lamer questions, why does it matter.

Its all the same. Because they do. Who cares. Why do you have to worry about it anyways. I never had someone ask me, wheres your helmet. Or why are you racing downhill with a protec helmet and not your fullface. We as humans dont think and learn until something happens. We normally learn the hard way. After 2 cracked dot approved Answer m8 mx helmetes bmx racing I always wear a full face when racing, and a protec when freeriding or dirt jumping. Probably wont protect against concussions, just against protruding rocks and branches. You live off a concussion, not a hemorage. You wont stand a chance with a rock in your dome nor a tree branch sticking out of your forehead.

Point is, dont worry about it.

about the coment on: all bmxer's are punkass's. well i ride 20's and 24's, i just used the punckass's to tell who are the pot heads and who is clean. usually most bmxers that think thier the sh!t usually smoke pot and all that stuff.

P.S. never think your the sh!t becuase there is allways another biker better then you.

Y'all realize that you can get severely hurt doing anything.
You're the very same fool for not wearing a helmet in a car.
Oh, its not the norm to do so? Neither is it riding street.

Why should a random person on a bike agnologe you? Is there some bicycle brotherhood that all riders need to be clued into? Do you wave and say howdy to your fellow road riders when they zipp by?
Ever think that someone might be a little more focused on riding than mingling with random people on the street?

Stop passing jugment on BMX/ers if you aren't a part of it.
Thinking that you know better only proves your ignorance.
and this statement just shows that your an ingnorant dumbass
