hardly ever. i used to be on motorcycle forums all the time...it would consume so many hours so I tried to stay away on RM...i would only browse and deal in the classifieds. i wanted to see what would come up if i searched for 'yeti asx' since I'm thinkin about buying one from a local guy, stumbled on this thread..
wanted to see if anyone else that lived close by got together with their fr/dh bikes

wish this wet would ease up long enough for me to put my new frame on the dirt and not in the mud.

i think he's giving me ****, i'm the self proclaimed old skool trail keeper and I don't have a problem calling things like I see them. Sorry, wasn't trying to be a dick.

did a couple hours of work today on a local 'trail' that will turn into a killer techy trail with another couple hours work...

looking to put some lighter rubber on the rig above. what are y'all running or would you switch to for a hard tail for SoCal's finest fireroad freeride and urban outtings? i'm looking for something along the lines of the Larsen TT, the Small Block 8, Schwalbe Table Top. I'm looking for light, but with enough sidewall that I could take it down Mt.W without too many blowouts.

I'm relatively new to the boards here and the area, moving here from the mountains of VA, but I've been fairly impressed with the 2.35 Small Block 8s on my hardtails (Salsa and a Yeti). They're a fast rolling tire that hooks up pretty well on the sandy hard-pack I've seen around here. If it gets real loose, then not so much. Mud? No.

For my longer travel bikes, I've stuck with my east coast setup of a 2.5 Nevegal up front with a 2.35 Blue Groove rear.

Yes, I like Kenda tires.

When is the next ride going out?

we are thinking of riding on saturdy morn, but unsure of what the weather holds for us. pending an update from mother nature, i'll update here tomorrow.

have you compared the Small Block 8 to the Larsen TT? Larsens appear to have a few extra grams on them, but not awful. I'm more concerned about the tire blowing a sidewall than having a feather weight. i'd like something that hooks up on the sand/hardpack socal soil.

Never spent anytime on the Larson offerings. I did ride the Small Blocks on my Slayer SXC a few times (WorldCup/Anderson, Nobel, etc) without complaint. The SXC has been claimed by the trail gods, but would not hesitate to use them on the replacement Rocky gave me: Slayer SS.

I'm sure I'll get plenty of heckling over this, but here's a redneck tip:

The Small Block Tubeless tires have a thicker sidewall than the tube variety. Not DH tire thick, but more robust that your typical kevlar beaded tire. I've been flogging one without recourse for months now at relatively low air pressure.

If you're worried about weight, I suggest PBR lite or whiskey without the Coke.
