HAHA! Buzzoven...now that brings back memories...Saw them with Cavity and Dropdead at Abc No Rio...I remember seeing Kurt/Kirk, the singer guitar player wail on his guitar, reach over & grab a Budweiser 40 oz bottle, smash it over his head, and kept on playing - never missing a beat as blood and glass ran down his dreadlocks....Good times, I thought, as glass pelted my chest!

We played many shows with them. My good buddy Pat (sings for Watch Them Die) used to roadie for them.

We played at the old 903 in DC w/ them one night.

First song:

Pat jumps on stage, lights off a brick off firecrackers. Then sets a teddy bear on fire that earlier back stage he stuffed with misc fireworks and M-80's.

In the middle of this, Kirk grabs a beer bottle, smashes it on his guitar, and grinds the broken end into his forehead, then flies back into the song, blood going everywhere.

Just then a fistfight breaks out in the crowd right in front of the stage.

We were standing back by the soundboard next to the club manager. After the first song was over he calmly turned to us and said, "This is their last show here."

:D

Listen to this interview for some more wacky stories: http://www.combatmusicradio.com/The_Show/TheShow081505.mp3. I've pretty shure Pat tells some good Buzzoven story.

We were roommates for a couple years, I've heard most of it.

:D

BTW - bike related - Pat is an amazing mountain bike rider. Really gifted. Climbs like a goat.

Amon Amarth. Woo for viking metal!

Meshuggah. Not too obscure, but I really love them right now for some reason. Their drummer (Tomas Haake) is amazing and one of my influences as a drummer, even though I can't play remotely as technical as him. (yeah yeah, bring on the drummer jokes)

Older stuff:

....back when metalcore was Crossover

The

Always loved
but not sure about how obscure they were/are.

Not real obscure, but
has always been my favorite band.

is "sludge" metal to me.

I always liked
because they were actually different.

Newer stuff: I've mellowed a lot with age.

I now like singers that actually sing - or at least take a shot at it..

I haven't heard much of
but I like what I've heard

Just starting to get into

I like most all of
stuff.

isn't bad.

Oh man, forgot about DRI and Sacred Reich. How bout Hallow's Eve? Armored Saint wasn't really "metal" but they were on Metal Blade Records, so I'm throwing them out there too. Real good band.

BTW, love this thread.

Man, there was a time in NY that if you called the CRO MAGS metal, you'd have your ass kicked by some huge skin named Billy Psycho (of the band of course named the Psychos). Fast forward 1 year, and I saw them at the rock club in Brooklyn called L'mours...they wanted to be metal in the worst way - fog machine, feet up on the monitors Iron Maiden style, Harley Flanigan (bass player) wearing a scarf with a fan blowing on him...it was hilarious!
