In a van.... down by the river
Not sure how it works 'round your house, but our kids have been 100% responsible for dressing themselves since before they were in school. They wear whatever the fuck they want. And, to be completely frank, IDGAF what they wear, nor do I notice...

Awesome man. I've recently got back into hiking with one of my coworkers. I would love to do something epic one of these days, maybe John Muir Trail. It's really amazing how much better the gear has become. I remember hiking with my dad as a kid and being straight loaded down just to go out for a weekend. Full frame pack, all that jazz and now everything is super compact, lightweight, relatively durable and if you shop smart, not all that expensive. Even the expensive gear, if you break out the costs on what you're actually getting use-wise, it's not that bad either. Way cheaper than a lot of other hobbies. I'm rooting for you ComplacentMetalsmith.

Starting to figure out my tent. A bit complicated, but with enough practice I should be able to pitch it under two minutes. It can also be pitched in a downpour and the inside will remain dry. Spent some time last night figuring out how to fold/roll it back up and how to carry it in my pack. Getting my sleeping pad in a day or two.

My Eureka has a bunch of plastic yokes to connect the poles which get strung through the panes. It sets up fast but never dry no matter how fast you can set it up. The exes dogs nails poked so many holes in the floor to make my tent almost unusable.

Me or @jdcamb ?

I have an MSR Pocket Rocket 2. I think jd has something brick and wood fired for A.T. Thru Pizza.
I have the same stove. Just ordered the maintenance kit. Just to have the extra parts... Went to sierra to buy shoes and try packs on. LL Bean has the pack I want. I am suspect of LL Bean quality however.... Going to Bristol to hike the FLT this weekend... Maybe next.

Picked up my sleeping pad last night at REI. Weighs less than 9 oz. and packs down to just a wee bit bigger than a soda can. Crazy. The last Thermarest I bought was for mah van in the 90s. It was the shit back in the day. Rolls up to a 25" log that weighs about 4 pounds.

Added up everything I've spent so far, or at least what I'm keeping in the pack. Still have about $800-1000 left. A lot of cash for sure, but still about half of what an equal quality bike would cost.

The thermarest foam pads are still the sh*t for sleeping on the cold snow. I have a little packable air one too, but that's for summer.

Pack went back to LL Bean. It was to small. Shoes went back to Dicks. I need boots. Scoped out some good choices at Sierra Trading Post....
