Why do you use the Shimano Airlines system ? I mean, I hardly change gears anyway when going DH.....is it really worth having all that suff just to change gears ?

And maybe some fork guards would be a good idea !

Yeah I only use like 3 gears when riding. Seriously considering singlespeed. Rather that than having nitrous oxide blowing up near my crotch when I crash. LOL.

Yup the airlines are the smoothest shifting system except the rohloff speedhub that i ever tried!
Its like formula 1... right hand changes up and left changes down or you can swop the hoses and reverse the effect of the levers!
Ever tried downhilling and shifting at the same time???
using the thumb shifter is pretty hard when riding over roots 'n rocks!
With the airlines system i can actually change gears with the knuckle of my thumb.... how cool is that!!!
The Pimp factor is also very high because of the rarety! believe i have the onel system in denmark! I'll ride it til it dies or i crash and blow the tanks og destroy the rear derailer!

The conclusion: If a new shifting system is needed I would buy the airlines again if i was offered the same price i paid for this system. Got it for a fraction of the cost from a shop gone bankrupt! or else i would go for the Sram X-9..... none of that rapid raise from shimano!

You're the second guy I've seen with the airshift. The other guy loves his too. Thanks for the info and sharing pictures of your TMX.

Thanx! Yeah that's me.

Yes I had it on my Mini, but then I got a temporary Sherman because the Dorado was topping out and seemed unfixable. Got it repaired 3 different places: TF Tuning, the danish Manitou dealer and and www.benben.dk. Weirdly enough it was the less experienced BenBen bikes that could fix it. But I just put it on the hardtail to test it out.

Hmmm,- I am not sure that I like it  , but...well, - I guess weight dosent matter considering it is a TMX.......but still, - how much do you change gears when going DH ??

relax lars you'll get your chance to try it when i hit the "rude" track!
but its a question of taste! I like the shifting but the drawback is the tank which also is the weakest link of the system!
Its big and bulky but the shift is unparelelled to any system alike that i tried!

On the "rude" track at the danish DH-cup i shifted 10-12 times and that is on a 37 sec. (fastest time) track!

i wouldn't shift as regularly with ordinary shifters because of the strain of shifting an cntrolling the DH rig at the same time! I can shift as much as i like with the airlines!

Nice riding there marcus!

rockymt21: Dont like the new XT and XTR! the got the rapid raise system and i dont like the feel of it as i'm used to standard shifting!

i think there is a NIB airlines system at Colonel's Bike Shop in Fort Worth, Texas that you could buy for probably $250 usd.

there is a guy here in Ft.Worth with a slightly used (5 urban rides) that you could buy for less. The bike shop might now how to get ahold of him.

good luck. cant beat XO bro

getting farther, not closer. decided to sell the monster and the tmx wheelset. New hoops and front hub are ordered. trying to sell a kidney and the monster to finance the new fork. I'll get it done eventually.
