Last night they were showing "Shallow Hal" and I forget how awesome the bass line in "Comfort Eagle" from Cake is.

Cake is one of my all time favorite bands because they have a good sound and every album is playable from the first track to the last.
:stupid:

I want to see them live.

They have only been up here like twice. I have never seen them live, but the shows got great reviews. Portland has some awesome small venues that are perfect for a band like Cake.

Looking at their tour dates it just looks like they set up show at places they want to visit. Lucky bastards.

Isn't that what being a rockstar is all about? Visit cool places and bang hot chicks. Sort of the same reasons I joined the Navy, only the pay sucked.

Shut up and ride...
Best bass line(s)...sheesh....there are so many....

Actually, one of the best I've ever heard was by a bassist on the Lizzy Borden song, "There Will Be Blood Tonight".

Then, there's "To Tame a Land", Iron Maiden. And since we're talking maiden, there are so many, but "Phantom of the Opera" and "Afraid to Shoot Strangers"....

Ok, then, there's Sting and The Police, "Synchronicity II", the bass guitar is subtle, but REAL effective....

Rush, "Red Barchetta", and "The Trees"

Yeah, just listen to "Red Barchetta", and I would have to say its one of my favorites as far as bass lines
:stupid: I haven't listened to Rush in years, but that is one of my favorites right there. I bought a bootleg "Chronicles" video in the UAE (desert storm, '91) that was awesome.

One more John Taylor gem I heard last night:

Power Station - "Some Like it Hot"

And the drums in that song crush your face.

DJ Magic Mike - "This Is For The Bassheads (3 min. bass drop)

It's like.... BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM, for 3 minutes.

But, seriously, how about "The Recluse" by Cursive. I was noticing how funky it was the other day.

As a bassist I would say that joe jackson had a great one and marshall crenshaw did as well. It's not about 10,000 notes in 4 minutes running up and down the neck. It's about hitting the mood.

Iron Maiden - Aces High (Steve Harris is a beast and my top bass idol)

It's bloody hard to play at speed, too. Somehow I still manage it, though...

anywho, a few others:

Funk The World - Toast Machine (drum/bass band, I know the bassist, he's crazy good. Bass plays the lead and rhythm parts. it's awesome.)

My Name Is Mud - Primus (Les Claypool... 'nuff said)

Come Together - The Beatles (not amazingly difficult but nice and fun to play)

So true. The bassline for "Is She Really Going Out With Him?" gets stuck in my head for days at a time and I haven't even heard the song in years. Greatness in simplicity.
