'05 Ti Boxxer springs can be found here . If i'm not mistaken, I had heard the '05 springs and earlier were very close in size, but i'm not for sure.

I could have went down more with Ti spring on shock, Boxxer kit from UK (forgot what it was called), carbon seat post, hayes mag plus brakes (carbon levers and ti hardware), etc.
The Mojo kit? I've got one in my Boxxers and not only did it improve the suspension considerably, my fork weighs 2940g including axle, both crowns and uncut steerer. Lightest (and cheapest) DH fork worth riding.

My Turner isn't far above 40lbs - changing to a Ti spring or DHX shock, and swapping the Azonic Outlaw wheelset for a 521 set would probably bring it under.

My Gemini should be done by Tuesday and it should easily be 39-38 pounds. I will post pics when it is done.
Getting a bike below the 40 pound weight limit isn't that tough if you have a good semi light frame to start with (not something like a demo 9), and then you have the coin to make it happen. Thats really all it takes!

I appreciate the direction. I'll start breaking it down and looking for peices.
Thanks.
I bet with the turbine cranks, RF bb, welgo mg-1 peddals, my xtr cs-m950 cassette with ti cogg, pc99 chain, bars and seat. I can probably get it under the 40 lb mark or right at it.
If you know of someone with a ti spring for my shock let me know. I hear a progressive spring will work. 450+ 6.5 - 6.75" long, approx. 1.5 inside diameter.

All right 50 posts later, lets take it to the level. Post pics of sub 40lb rides and specs to give ideas to other would be builders or builders, pro's etc...
Anyone generally intrested in making their ride a little lighter and more fun.
It is quite easy actually.

We had our entire line of team bikes under 40lbs with diff parts, some as low as 36lbs. Not bad for a 9" travel DH bike with a 9.5" shock on it...We didn't really do anything special either (223, truvativ, RS, 5th, maxxis, mavic).

This year they will be ridiculously light due to some new sponsors making lighter gear.

edit:only picture i think i have online right now

Just don't be too stupid in the search for sub 40lbs. My protaper bars don't way much more than the Monkeylite Carbon DH bars and I feel like I have strength at the bars. If you're racking WC (world cup) circuits where there's not a Gnar of rocks and such then Carbon and Ti and everything else is ok. Get what is the best light to strength factor for how you ride.

Here's an example of my rig

2002 Intense M1 with 450 steel coil 5th element
Marzocchi Shiver DC w/integrated stem
Answer Protaper bars
Shimano XT rear derailuer and shifter
E.13 chainguide
Truvativ holzfeller cranks
Truvativ DH BB (gigapipe)
Hayes 8" discs F & R
Shimano DX pedals
FSA Pig DH PRO headset + Headlock
WTB Ti railed DH seat
Thomson Post cut down
Hope Collar
Hope rear 12mm Bulb TA hub
Marzocchi 20mm Front hub
14g DT/WS spokes with Brass nipples
Arrow DHX rims 32h
Maxxis Mobster 2.7f/2.5 rear SR
Hutchinson Green DH tubes

All in all I calculated it to weigh somewhere betwen 44 and 45lbs. Exactly 44.67lbs. My build is by no way light weight at all. But for strength to weight it's excellent for me.

I know I can drop weight though where needed. The biggest step is tubeless. I'd loose close to half a pound to 3/4 of a pound going tubeless on my current wheelset. I have 1lb in tubes alone on the bike. That'd drop it down to 44 exactly. At that point changing out things that only give me grams is pushing it. A Ti spring would help but it's alot........and I had one that was too light. Ti springs in the fork would help.....but haven't seen them.......I think you get the picture though.

To go to carbon bars + seatpost + roadie seat + whatever road/XTR level stuff you go to it all costs $$$ and sometimes the gain isn't worth it. My XT cassette weights slightly more than a XTR but cost is like 2 times a XT. No point in going XTR in that case. Same with most parts on a bike. Sometimes it's not worth it

Also, keep in mind that 41 lbs is only a pound under 42 lbs, just like 39 lbs is only a pound under 40 lbs...but we think of the 39 lb bike as somehow a lot lighter than the 40lb bike, whereas with a 45 or 47 lb bike, a pound doesn't seem like so much.

What I'm trying to say is that 40lbs isn't some magic number at which your bike is suddenly massively lighter and better...40.5 pounds is pretty light, and it might not be cost-effective or desirable to get to 40 or 39.75 lbs at that point, just to get to the "40 lb barrier..."

Why not? My trail bike is in pieces, my XC bike is for sale and I wanted to ride!
No one wanted to buy the DHi so I am working towards making it into a trail bike, but am having trouble finding a Ruckus swing arm.

Back in the day before DH bikes, my cromo Marin Pine Mountain HT weighed in at over 38lbs - HD Mavic "energy" rims, Boss steel cranks, other HD items so I would quit bending and breaking stuff. I went through 5 BB's in a 1 month stretch (3 broken, 2 twisted). I was hard on the bike! But the frame outlasted every component I ever put on it.

yeah, I know that sub 40 is a mind thing. But carry 4 lbs on your neck or waist for 2 hours on a hike, then tell me how incremental 4 lbs is. It adds up over the course of a ride and obviously the terrain.
Every little bit helps as long as strength is not sacraficed to a dangerous degree.

I managed to dump a ton of weight by running the Kenda kevlar beaded tires in 2.35 instead of wire and 2.5 , and switched from 729s to 721. Can really feel the difference at a course like fontucky.
