Interesting notes about the track. Just wanted to address that the track is not flat. It drops 1500ft. There are sections where the gradient combined with rocks means that you can feel momentum being robbed. There are other sections where you get a flat landing (big rock near the end) followed by a downhill rock garden.

I just pulled up my track walk from before that was a thing (2002/2003). My memory was serving me correctly. Parts of this track that still exist have (expectedly) changed pretty dramatically. Less rocks dare I say! Any interest in me posting that stuff up here?

MOAR

Also for being from nearly two decades ago, those pictures are shockingly non-potato-esque.

Alright, I'll grab some right now...

These pics are from a pro dslr (nikon d1x) with nice lenses I borrowed from university from the summer. Straight from the camera, just resizing. Has held up nicely I'd say!

So top riders on the planet say they are scared of the jumps, Minaar and Gee, 2 guys known for being awesome at jumping, one of them being a Rampage podium finisher overshoot a jump because they are scared of it but some guy on the internet knows better if the jump feels safe and normal because ridemonkey gives us protection from mind fucks? Sorry if I sound critical off you but you seem to be assuming like you somehow know better than top pros if a jump they are jumping (and you are not) is easy. And people doing a jump doesn't mean it was easy. They have to do that jump, it's their job. So they are smashing it because of 1. They are the best in the world at bikes and 2. They get paid to do that jump not because the jump is easy. Using that logic anything anyone does is easy.
Ummm, I don't recall ever saying the jump is easy? I think we are actually on the same page, so not sure why you're calling me out?!?

I said the jump is hard. the pros said so, so I believe them. but pros are pros, and will adapt. it's their mental fortitude that got them where they are.

that said, if a feature is legitimately dangerous, racers have an avenue for having it removed through rider reps to the UCI.

But as subsequent videos have shown, the racers seem to have adapted.

I had that TPC+ Dorado on my first v10.
Tuned by the Be One team mechanic, not even my most recent Bos Idylle Air felt that good.
The only problem (beside the fact you could twist it by just looking at it) was the dorado pretty much exploding every weekend and needing a complete rebuild :D

So, before the DH was the Mountain Cross! Forgot it was called that. DHers used to race that too. Behold.

The woods were dark. Slippery mud covering slimy rocks. Welcome to WV! Every fourth bike was an M1 in those days.

George Ryan, who I met briefly. I overheard some guy talking about Ridemonkey while walking the course and I struck up a conversation.

In conditions like this, and 26" wheels, nobody was complaining about it being "a little flat." Best not even say that word when biking.

Line during practice for the wild zone drop/chute. Once again, ridemonkey famous BCD!

20030614-ncs-snowshoe-expert-DSC_0551.jpg

Marshall Hance (Sideways) of Endless with ashville crew while BCD goes by. Doesn't get more Ridemonkey than this! Endless and crew were great to meet and hang with. Got to ride his lifetime for a bit. Manualled like a champ.

20030614-ncs-snowshoe-expert-DSC_0556.jpg

One of the best things about this drop was that it was blind, had a bike length or two to land land before it pitched down steeply. Very different run-in from how it works today.

This wash section was treacherous. It's not in the current race course. Was this guy on RM? Jeremy R is that your crew?

Think this zone was called the 90s. Not in the current course.
