The e-bike + rider combo is actually likely lower in carbon emissions than just the rider unassisted.Everybody is just short term fixing things w/o telling people that a change of lifestyle is needed. Riding a regular bike instead of an ebike would be a start.
But there is the dirty secret of manufacturing and battery mining…
Just as for electric cars I bet the payoff time is short. For cars I’ve read in the ballpark of 30,000 miles of use for a full BEV.

I have seen numbers of 80-120K kilometers. That is 10 years worth of driving for me. How often do you get a new car?
Also wonder how long batteries last. If you need a battery swap, that favourable CO2 balance is out the door.
