Does MMcG count as a newbie? He missed the BIG gathering last year, but made it to the smaller one in the fall.

It's going to be a big crowd this year.
DOUGH I have been discovered....I was hoping to just blend in and perhaps avoid the jumpercables/astroglide;) :D

KINGDOM TRAILS APPOINTS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Kingdom Trail Association (KTA), based in East Burke, recently
appointed Tim Tierney as the executive director. Tim has over ten years
experience in managing and maintaining trail systems. He was previously
employed as the director of field programs for the Adirondack Mountain
Club in Lake Placid, New York. He has also been the Long Trails
northern field supervisor for the Green Mountain Club, a winter
caretaker with the Randolph Mountain Club, a National Park Service
ranger, and hostel manager for Hostelling International. He studied
environmental planning and conservation at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison. Tim will operate out of a new office located
upstairs in the Baileys and Burke general store, across the street
from East Burke Sports.

Now in its tenth year, Kingdom Trails is a non-profit charitable
organization established by a group of visionary residents and area
business leaders with the goal of encouraging recreational use of the
Northeast Kingdom that is both ecologically sensitive and promotes the
natural beauty of Vermonts least developed region. Kingdom Trails has
grown to oversee over 100 miles of multi-use non-motorized recreational
trails. Recently, KTA received a grant from the Vermont Department of
Transportation to study the feasibility of constructing a recreational
path between Lyndon and East Burke. Kingdom Trails has been recognized
by local and regional publications such as National Geographic
Adventure, BIKE, Bicycling, Sports Afield, The Boston Herald, The
Boston Globe, Mens Journal, Hooked on the Outdoors magazine and
Vermont Sports Today. A majority of the trail system is made possible
by the cooperation of local landowners. A $25.00 Kingdom Trails
membership fee provides members with a seasonal trail map updates on
association events, and access to approximately one hundred miles of
recreational trails (subject to seasonal restrictions). Additional
summer and winter trail maps are available for $3.00 each. For more
information on this event or about Kingdom Trails, contact us at 802
626.0737, visit , or e-mail info@kingdomtrails.org.

I think Kingdom trails is a inspiration for all trail lovers. They are organised, in good terms with the land owners (I think) but are not over zealot like other organisation.

I can't wait for Monkeyfest.

I was reading in one magazine last year (can't remember which one...DirtRag maybe) and they were saying they think Kingdom Trails is going to turn into the next Moab as far as an MTB tourist destination goes. Not sure if that's a good thing.

I wish there was a way we could keep it a secret. I'd hate to see the Kingdom become a huge mountain biking destination like Moab. I don't think maintenance could keep up with that much use.

On the other hand, the local economy could sure use the boost.

I remember that article too. Maybe it's time to invest in a property in East Burke?

Not to slight Douglas in any way, but you should party at Treesaw's!
 Then again, it's usually painful the next morning, either by the booze or "The Vortex" :D

That's what Geek O'Bikey did last time. He came up Thursday, stayed over Thursday night, we did a ride in Connecticut Friday morning, then headed up to Vermont.

The Vortex is part of the freeride trail that Treesaw's husband "Squirrel" (a great guy and great rider) made in his vast wooded acreage he calls his backyard. Basically, you drop into a steep chute that ends up launching you (hopefully) over a creek. It uses most of your suspension at the bottom, and if you use your brakes at any time, chances are you'll case the creek bank. (Trust me.) :D
I think jdcamb may have some video of us doing it.
