My old Proflex 550 had a pretty decent pivot size. It also was loosey goosey like nobody's business after a few years because of the magic of bushings and a pinch bolt.

I like that the main pivot has a sizeable diameter.

I had an eye opening discussion with a riding buddy lately, he told me that BB spindles should be as stiff as possible with size between 24 and 30mm being available but on the other hand pivot axles for the rear linkage are much smaller: for example 15mm on a Evil Following gen 1, 17mm on a Devinci Django...
28.99 one might say?

It's still going to have the classic anti-squat of an Orange, the only upside to his layout is the progressive LR.

We're discussing XC bikes here now?

460 mm reach on medium? That’s longer than most large frames a year or three back...
Yeah the reach figure is getting pretty silly. I dunno how people bunnyhop bikes when their bars are that far forward. Could always size down I guess, but for some people with the right ape index that would probably fit. I'm 5'9 and 445-450mm reach is my preference

As someone who's 6' tall with a significantly positive ape index (I think 3-4") I'm all about these new, big reach/steep STA bikes. ~490mm seems to be my sweet spot

I love GG bikes, I really do. I'd be all over a Shred Dogg.

But here in Oz the GX build Shred Dogg is $8100 AUD, slightly more than a carbon Bronson. When I say affordable I mean the soulless stuff that I can afford to run.

Short legs, long ape index here - I like the longer reach movement. Not nearly as excited about the taller stack that goes with most of them though. There's only a few manufacturers out there that go with long reach/low stack, and you can forget about most 29ers.

Forgot about the Australia price inflation. We've worked with our Australian distributor to reduce that as much as possible, but tariffs and currency conversion is the main hurdle.

Its a total scam over here with the duties. Small manufacturers get hammered somehow, so pricing from US/Canada is irrelevant over here.

Over there an aluminium GX Patrol is a few hundred cheaper than a carbon Kona. Over here, the Kona is cheaper by $1000. It's a bullshit system, and I think only the big manufacturers can use the economies of scale to bring stuff into Oz at reasonable price points. But their geo all sucks (or their durability).

Interesting you should mention that.... :brows:

It is actually cheaper to fly to the US and buy a frame/bike and bring it back used (no duty) than it is to buy here for a few brands. Just makes warranty a PITA but after the fuck around the local distros give us with warranty when we buy here its not like we're losing much.

Maybe you could work with the Australian government to have a reduced-tariff health-care-free model, so that if you are injured while riding it, no health care?

I'm chock full of amazing ideas.

Certainly not the cheapest option if you compare to YT, but to be fair the GX LTD option is not that bad and the bike has a lifetime warranty.

I just bought a Spartan 27 LTD. I was going for a full custom build, but honestly the Devinci LTD build kit was so close to what I would have built, I just went with this one and saved a lot of money.

For example, if you compare the Nomad Carbon C in S trim with the Spartan LTD (both 7k$CDN): The Devinci has a better fork, better shock, better cockpit and more adjustable brakes. A comparable Rocky Slayer Carbon 70 has carbon cranks for 1000$CDN more.

You also need to consider warranty service when looking at prices. YT may be cheap but there's a decent amount of reports of their warranty service being suboptimal. Devinci on the other hand has a very positive reputation for dealing with warranties swiftly when they do occur.

I have used Devinci's warranty and they were quick to respond and sent the part.

My lbs which sells a lot of Devinci told me several times that they are very easy to deal with for warranty issues, unlike other brands that are much more of a pain to deal with.
